Federal charges have been filed against a Downey man following an investigation into suspicious activity detected Sunday during advance security planning for the Presidential visit to Los Angeles.

The case highlights the meticulous planning, protective intelligence and layered security that underpin every one of our movements. Long before a protected arrives, our agents, police officers and technical teams are busy identifying potential threats, coordinating closely with our local partners and taking decisive action to mitigate risks.

This arrest and the efforts of our hardworking team here in the United States Secret Service - Los Angeles Field Office demonstrate how advance planning, vigilance and strong partnerships with our local law enforcement partners help ensure the safety and security of our nation’s leaders and the public.

With the World Cup now behind us here in L.A., our team got to take some time to watch a match together while enjoying a great lunch (shout out to ATSAIC Gutierrez for making his famous brisket)! Thanks to everyone who came out to our World Cup Watch Party. While our dual mission of protection and investigation never stops, it’s important to come together once in a while to enjoy each other’s company.

The Secret Service - Los Angeles Field Office was proud to support the FIFA World Cup in L.A. as part of the Federal Coordination Team and in our role protecting dignitaries who attended the matches. While the matches in our city are done, the work securing major events in Southern California continues as we move forward planning for the 2027 Super Bowl and 2028 Olympics.

We had an excellent turnout for our most recent Applicant Physical Aptitude Test in Pasadena. More than a dozen people aspiring to join the U.S. Secret Service came out and gave it their all. Those who proved they have the physical ability to take on the demands of a career with our agency will move on to the next step in the recruitment process.

The Secret Service is always right there in the background making sure those we protect stay safe, no matter where they go or what they’re doing. Recently, that meant supporting former President Joe Biden’s guest appearance on Jay Leno's Garage, an assignment made possible by our great partnership with the California Highway Patrol. Their support made this motorcade through scenic Los Angeles County possible. Thank you, !

As we all watch our favorite teams in the World Cup, there's another competition we at the U.S. Secret Service - Los Angeles Field Office have our eyes on as well, and in this one, we're throwing our support behind our partners at the California Highway Patrol. Their pilot car is at the front of every presidential and vice-presidential motorcade in California, and the extensive skills of our partners at CHP help to keep these complex operations moving safely and efficiently.

So, we're proud to give a nod to our partners at CHP as they vie for the title of 2026 Best Looking Cruiser! Anyone can vote in the competition by going to the American Association of State Troopers' website. Let us know who you're rooting for in the comments!
