Last Thursday, our OYD kickoff event brought together members of our newly consolidated department to connect, get to know each other, and answer questions about the work ahead. We’re excited to build this team and continue our mission of supporting the youth of Los Angeles.

Together, we’re building something stronger.

We’re proud to officially become part of the Community Investment Department (CID), uniting four LA City departments to better serve Los Angeles communities.
As of July 1, The Youth Development will now be known as the Office of Youth Development (OYD).

This marks an important moment as we unite our efforts to better serve communities across Los Angeles. By bringing together our collective expertise, programs, and services, we’re creating a stronger, more coordinated department; better positioned to strengthen our city and support the next generation of leaders.

The name may change, but our commitment to LA’s youth remains stronger than ever.

Budget advocacy 2026 brought together neighbourhood councils, budget advocates, and community members to share ideas and exchange perspectives. The program also featured a panel on city services and several keynote speakers, including Mayor Karen Bass and City Comptroller Kenneth Mejia. 

Additionally, OMYC alumni lead a youth breakout session, allowing youth to share what they believe are the top priorities for youth moving forward. Many youth seemed to share a desire for more community spaces, youth community engagement programs, and greater transparency in how the city invests in youth.

Last Friday, we gathered at City Hall to celebrate the culmination of OMYC 4. Congratulations to all OMYC 4 members on their accomplishments over the past year!

Together, they served as the voice of youth across Los Angeles, engaged in policy discussions, developed capstone projects to provide youth input on City initiatives, learned about the City budget and its impact on Angelenos, connected community members with valuable resources, and explored meaningful ways to give back to their city.

We look forward to seeing all the incredible things our OMYC 4 alumni will accomplish and are excited to watch them continue growing as leaders in their communities. The future of Los Angeles is in good hands.
