We passed a mansion tax to prevent homelessness and make LA more affordable.

ULA is facing attacks locally and statewide, and this morning the UHLA coalition showed up to defend it and set the tone for the ULA Ad Hoc Committee.

From the press conference to City Hall, our members and supporters refuted flawed claims being used to justify changes to ULA and backed a data driven evaluation with deep stakeholder input — not a rushed process that risks cutting critical funding.

This fight is bigger than LA. Statewide efforts threaten local funding, and leaders should defend ULA by supporting ACA 13, not weakening it here at home.

The committee did not discuss amendments yet, but will meet throughout the month. Stay tuned for the next meeting.

ULA doesn’t need fixing — it needs protection.

On Wednesday nearly 50 community members showed up to headquarters for an organizing meeting to learn about the threats facing Measure ULA, the tax on wealthy developers that has raised over 1 billion dollars for housing and services for the working class. 🚨 Tomorrow, Jan 27, LA City Council will vote on putting amendments to Measure ULA on the ballot — opening the door to tax exemptions for millionaires and weakening a voter-approved law that’s already working for our communities.

ALL OUT FOR ULA ✊

Measure ULA has already raised billions for affordable housing and homelessness prevention, keeping thousands of Angelenos housed. Now powerful real estate interests are trying to roll it back instead of letting it fully work.

Community voices — including the Measure ULA Oversight Committee — were left out of this process. Decisions about the People’s Billion should be made with the people, not behind closed doors.

Tomorrow at 10am, LA City Council will consider a motion to place amendments to Measure ULA on the 2026 ballot — opening the door to weakening a voter-approved law that is already working.

Measure ULA is keeping people housed, funding affordable homes, and creating good union jobs. The proposed changes would delay and substantially reduce funding, shifting resources away from permanent housing toward short-term solutions.

This move is happening without meaningful community input and is being driven by real estate pressure and political maneuvering.

We need all hands on deck to defend the People’s Billion.

Last week, we celebrated a major victory for Los Angeles: $1 billion raised by Measure ULA for tenant protections, homelessness prevention, and affordable housing.

Like so many who end up in that situation, Ve’ona Rogers never thought of herself as someone who would experience homelessness.

She ran a successful cosmetics business that helped support local schools, but after she became sick with lupus, her life and work were thrown into such chaos that she ultimately lost her home.

Ve’Ona was able to move back into housing, but her illness made it difficult to consistently pay her rent, and her landlord tried to evict her. With support from organizations like and , she successfully fought her eviction, and this experience convinced Ve’Ona to become a supporter of the Measure ULA campaign.

Then, after ULA passed, she became eligible to receive $10,000 in rental assistance to cover her back rent and ensure that she couldn’t be pushed out of her home.

“That is a powerful gift that we gave ourselves,” said Rogers. “I think about it every day.”

Once again, anti-tax hard-liners from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association are back in court trying to overturn Measure ULA — and once again, they’re recycling arguments that have already failed at every level of California’s courts.

This fringe legal crusade is about protecting wealthy property interests at the expense of housing solutions voters approved by nearly 60%.

Measure ULA stands because the people of Los Angeles demanded action, and every court so far has upheld their right to enact it.
