CPR and AED Awareness Week is a powerful reminder that everyday people can save lives.

More than 350,000 cardiac arrests happen each year, and survival depends on fast action. When someone collapses and is not breathing, every second matters.

Call 911
Send someone to get an AED
Start CPR right away

Even if you are not trained, chest compressions can make a difference. You can push hard and fast in the center of the chest, and a 911 operator can help guide you.

This summer, with more families traveling and large events happening across the LA region, knowing what to do could help you step in when it matters most.

Today, June 3, marks the birthday of Dr. Charles Drew, a pioneer whose work changed how we save lives.

In the 1940s, Dr. Drew developed new ways to separate and preserve blood plasma, making it possible to store it longer and transport it where it was needed most. During World War II, that breakthrough helped treat thousands of injured people.

As the first medical director of American Red Cross Blood Services, he also helped launch some of the first large-scale blood drives; introducing systems and even bloodmobiles that are still used today.

Because of his work, doctors today can safely deliver blood to patients in emergencies, during surgery, and for ongoing care; including people living with sickle cell disease.

Every blood donation is part of that legacy.

Today, we honor Dr. Drew for not only advancing science, but for helping make lifesaving care possible for millions of people.

June is Pride Month—a time to celebrate community, visibility and the importance of showing up as your full self. 🏳️‍🌈

At the American Red Cross, everyone is welcome in our mission—and that’s something we live every day. It’s in the volunteers who show up to support their neighbors, the donors who roll up their sleeves to help someone they may never meet, and the communities that come together in moments that matter most.

We’re proud to stand alongside our LGBTQ+ volunteers, donors and partners who are part of those moments every day—bringing care, connection and hope when it’s needed most.

Because when people feel seen and welcomed, they step forward. And when more people step forward, more lives can be helped.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the people who make our mission stronger—simply by being part of it.

As Military Appreciation Month comes to a close, we honor those who serve—and the moment everything changes. 🇺🇸

Each day at the Military Entrance Processing Station in El Segundo, young Americans raise their right hand and take the Oath of Enlistment, transitioning from civilian life to military service. It’s a moment filled with pride, uncertainty and powerful goodbyes. From that very first step, the American Red Cross is there. ❤️

Our Service to the Armed Forces volunteers welcome new recruits and their families, offering guidance, connection and reassurance before they leave for basic training. 🤝 And long after they go, the Red Cross remains a constant—providing 24/7 emergency communications, resources and confidential support through the Hero Care Network. 📞

Because service doesn’t happen alone—and neither does support.

This Military Appreciation Month and every day, we stand with service members, caregivers and families across the country and around the world. 🌎

June 6, 1944 — D‑Day.

A day of enormous courage, devastating loss, and one of the most complex military operations in history. But even amid the chaos on the beaches of Normandy, the laws of war still mattered.

Join the American Red Cross for a special IHL 101 session exploring how International Humanitarian Law applied during the largest amphibious invasion ever carried out.

Senior Counsel for IHL Thomas Harper will take us behind the history to examine:
-How the rules of war guided operations on D‑Day
-What protections existed for civilians and those hors de combat
-How these principles continue to shape military conduct today

📅 Friday, June 5, 2026
🕘 9:00–10:00 AM | 5:00–6:00 PM (Encore)
