Imagine LA

Imagine LA Imagine LA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing volunteer teams in the community to end the cycle of family homelessness and poverty.
Imagine LA has been interrupting the cycle of family homelessness, poverty and neglect in Los Angeles since 2008. We have worked with hundreds of families and volunteer mentors, collaborating with hundreds of community-based partners throughout our city. In 2017, we launched our first licensee, Imagine Whittier, a program of The Whole Child. We are now growing rapidly in South LA, mid-City, the San Fernando Valley and, soon, West LA.

Meet Charlie, our Mentor of the Month for May. He has been a consistent presence in the life of the Brown family, being the mentor to 13 year old Daniel. Together they've enjoyed trips to the beach, football games, having lunch together, and so much more. Even during the Safer at Home Orders, Charlie has stayed connected with Daniel by dropping off food for his family. We are so thankful for Charlie and his dedication to his mentorship!

Burbank Covid Zoo 2020 - Google My Maps

Looking for something fun to do this weekend with the kids? Head to Burbank! More than two dozen families in Burbank have worked together to create a free drive-through (or social-distancing walk-through) display they are calling COVID ZOO 2020 to bring joy and provide an opportunity for a little adventure. Today through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. you’ll see different animal exhibits around Burbank. Check out the map and chart a course for fun! https://bit.ly/2y6jn5H

A walking/biking/drive by Zoo for the kids of Burbank! Should go without saying, but: PLEASE PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING WHILE DOING THIS PROJECT. Do not touch the exhibits or people's private property. Stay on the sidewalk. I know we can do this right.

On this #FeelGoodFriday we thank our volunteer mentors, who have stepped up to the challenge of staying supportive, resourceful, and connected to their mentees! They have helped their mentees file for unemployment, navigate virtual learning, secure food and other necessities, and have some fun during a time when the options can seem so limited. Thank you to all of our mentors for heeding the call by helping our community during these unpredictable times!

Hello Imagine LA Families & Mentors:

Hola Imagine LA Familias & Mentores:

Family Emergency & Investment Fund
Imagine LA's Response to COVID-19

During these unprecedented times, Imagine LA's families are at elevated risk of returning to homelessness. Every day, another family expresses these fears to us, and we are taking action.

To combat these very real possibilities, Imagine LA seeks to grow our Family Emergency Investment Fund (FEIF), an existing and scalable program that provides quick, accessible funding for our case managers to pay landlords and vendors directly for items and resources for families, during both acute crises and as investments in families' long-term success.

Join us in our ambitious goal of raising $150,000 by April 24, to ensure that every Imagine LA family stays housed and has the support and resources to thrive. *Through April 3, all donations up to $50,000 will be matched by the Karisma Foundation*

Send a strong message of support to every Imagine LA family working to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. Give today at http://action.imaginela.org/FEIFcampaign

Happy World Storytelling Day! Today, we celebrate the spoken word and its power to instruct us – to love, to forgive others, to reflect, or to strive for a better world. Here at Imagine LA, we celebrate our families and the stories of their superpowers! Like Jessica*, whose sense of resilience and self-advocacy skills helped her find a new home after she and her son were evicted and experienced homelessness.
How have your superpowers helped you overcome adversity? What’s your story?

Thank you to everyone who has reached out with your words of hope and offers of assistance as our community faces its greatest public health crisis. During this time, we are actively putting our families and staff first. We are limiting in-person meetings, pivoting to phone and digital solutions, and are maintaining close contact with our families, providing up-to-date, science-based information and local resources to support their health and wellbeing.

For an organization rooted in relationships, “social distancing” is extra challenging, but we are committed to the health of our community. And when this crisis has passed, we will still need mentors! You can help ensure that we maintain a strong pipeline of mentors by signing up today at http://action.imaginela.org and completing our Mentor Application.

Is there a phone number that I can give out to homeless people that I talk to where they can get help no matter where they are in the city? I mean some kind of 211 for homeless that routes them to their local place to get help?
