I had the honor of joining LAUSD's Medical Services Division and, in the presence of community medical partners, upheld our commitment to student physical and mental health. I am growing concerned about the direction the federal government is taking in funding student healthcare initiatives, but LAUSD is doubling down on these programs.

We recognize that for some of our students, LAUSD is their primary healthcare provider due to the historical and systemic underfunding of healthcare providers in marginalized neighborhoods. The data is clear: better student health leads to greater academic outcomes, and we will continue to advocate at all levels of government so that our students can live healthy lives.

Teaching is a very noble and humbling profession, but LAUSD managed to celebrate a select group of teachers throughout the District. It was amazing to see the teachers and their families take pride in their work, and I am reminded every day that at LAUSD, our teachers are la flor y nata. They are the best of the best in their profession.

Congratulations to all who were selected, but especially to my Board District 3 teachers, Jennifer Wakefield of Vintage Magnet, Randi Seligson of Hale Charter Academy Gifted STEAM Magnet, Juanda Marshall from the Arts Education Branch, and Rebecca Atwell-Kent from Haskell STEAM Magnet. You all make me so proud!

I had a great visit to Van Nuys High School alongside Senator Caroline Menjivar. It was incredible seeing students so engaged in science, innovation, and hands- on learning.

Thank you to the entire Van Nuys High School community for the warm welcome, and special shoutout to their teacher, Ms. Shim, for the amazing work she continues to do for students every day. ๐Ÿ“š
