Munster Mansion

Munster Mansion Welcome to the one and only fan-page for the Munster Mansion! The spooky television home of America's First Family of Fright - The Munsters!

Officially one of the most recognisable homes in film and television history, building #3 (originally known as the Maxim House) is best known as the house of television family "The Munsters", featured on "The Munsters" (1964-1966) and "The Munsters Today" (1988-1991). Originally built in 1946 for the feature film "So Goes My Love", the house was later used on "The Munsters". The exterior of the house is located on the Colonial Street back-lot at Universal Studios, California - with the interiors seen on "The Munsters" and "The Munsters Today" located nearby on separately built sound-stages to accommodate a live studio audience. The house had fell into a severe state of disrepair prior to filming of "The Munsters Today" in 1988, resulting in a scale miniature model being used in addition to licenced stock footage from the original show. The house has since been returned to its former glory (albeit without its spooky adornments and gothic gate-posts), and has featured recently on Desperate Housewives as part of Wisteria Lane. Over the years the house has appeared on many other shows, including; Murder She Wrote, Coach and briefly in the feature film Dragnet. Find out more about the house at www.themunsterstoday.tk. Munster enthusiasts Charles and Sandra McKee built their own "live-in" Munster Mansion in Texas, the build completed fully in 2009. Find out more about at www.munstermansion.com.

Munster Mansion spotted on Peacock’s Ted! 🧸 💥

🦇 TV’s “Munster Mansion” Spotted on New Peacock Comedy: 🦇

The home from classic horror sitcom has made yet another appearance on our television screens, adding yet another amazing credit in 2026 to its already burgeoning resume.

Originally known as the “Maxim House”, the iconic facade - which was built in 1946 on the Universal backlot for the feature film “So Goes my Love” was spotted by eagle-eyed Munsters super-fan “Cousin Frank” (Frank McGowan) on new Peacock comedy “Ted”, created by Seth MacFarlane.

Located at the fictional 1313 Mockingbird Lane on “The Munsters” (1964-1966), the iconic TV home, along with many others on has appeared in literally hundreds of film and TV shows over the years, this time doubling on “Ted” for Framingham, Massachusetts.

The “Ted” series is a direct prequel to the popular films, set in the early 1990s with lots of and callbacks to days gone by. It follows foul-mouthed, wisecracking Ted as he navigates life with his best friend, teenager John Bennett. While Ted’s fame has faded following the events that made him a celebrity, he continues to live with the Bennett family, creating chaos wherever he goes… 🧸 💥

The Bennett family consists of teenager John Bennett (played by ), his father Matty ( ), mother Susan ( ), and cousin Blaire ( ), with Ted himself voiced once again by series creator MacFarlane.

The can be seen directly across the road from the Bennett family home on the show, which itself is a famous Hollywood alumni property in its own right - recognisable to classic TV fans as the “Leave it to Beaver” house.

MacFarlane is a well known fan of both The Munsters and Leave it to Beaver, and said; “I still love so many old television shows that everyone else has probably forgotten about by now. I grew up on these episodes and the reruns, and love revisiting them whenever I get the time to.”

MacFarlane is a known Hollywood television historian and collector, and many of his shows are packed with references to vintage television, classic films, old commercials, and forgotten pop culture.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: 🏚️

We have been receiving a number of messages recently from people looking to book to see the real life Munster Mansion in Waxahachie, Texas, USA.

Whilst we are obviously HUGE fans of the life size replica build, we are NOT affiliated with the Mansion itself, this is owned by Charles and Sandra McKee, with their page over at - https://www.facebook.com/MunsterMansionTx/.

Our page is dedicated to celebrating the Munster family home - as seen on The Munsters (1964-1966), The Munsters Today (1987-1991) and various film and TV shows over the years since, including Rob Zombie’s recent 2022 film “The Munsters”. 🦇

Fun Fact:

The OG “Munster Mansion” - (originally known as the Maxim House, was built for the film “So Goes My Love” in 1943) is still one of the most famous and widely recognised homes in cinema history! But surprise fact, it wasn’t a real house at all! 😮 It was an exterior façade built on the Universal Studios Hollywood backlot.

Indoor scenes with the cast in and around the home were filmed on a separate interior soundstage.

Most remarkably, the exterior itself still stands today - albeit looking less dishevelled and spooky, and has appeared in numerous productions over the years, including; Dragnet, Murder She Wrote, Desperate Housewives and Leave it to Beaver.

It was also recently seen on Seth MacFarlane’s “Ted” TV show.
