The City of Los Angeles is overrun with cars.

This has a devastating impact on safety, the environment, and the quality of our daily lives.

As energy source concerns rise and heavy traffic remains constant, the answer clearly does not lie in everyone trading in their gas-vehicles for expensive electric ones. We need to get people out of their cars. We need streets that are safe for children. We need sidewalks that aren’t hazardous for mobility device users. We need walkable neighborhoods, and reliable public transportation.

As someone who walks every day, and rides the Metro several times a week, I know first hand how dangerous it can be to navigate our city without a personal vehicle. I also know that neighborhoods with better walkability are not only safer and more comfortable for pedestrians, but also better for business.

Experiencing L.A. on foot has given me a strong sense of the urgent needs of our city.

Getting more Angelinos out of their cars and into their community would have an extremely positive impact on our health, safety, environment, and economy.

The crisis of affordability with regard to housing continues to be the preeminent challenge we face as a city and a nation.

Other candidates for CD4 want to let developers run roughshod over single-family neighborhoods with no plan on ensuring new housing is affordable or sustainable.

We have the ability to house everyone if we are willing to use what we have, and prioritize human life and sustainability over the profits of developers.

Better ways to create more housing and stabilize the market:
Remove private equity and corporate ownership of housing
Cap the number of investment properties an individual may own
Create pathways for individuals and families to purchase the homes where they live
Prioritize conversions in “new” development
Punitive vacancy taxes
Make middle-class homeownership attainable

With an overinflated salary of over $200,000 per year, it’s no wonder current Los Angeles City Councilmembers are out of touch with the realities that workers and families face every day.

If elected, my first and top priority will be implementing a salary reduction proposal for City Councilmembers.

We should be looking into every city agency and identifying overinflated salaries.

Taxpayers deserve justification as far as how much their elected and appointed officials earn, and reductions should be made anywhere that justification is inadequate.
