If you are a rental property owner in South Los Angeles who has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, then we highly encourage you to apply to join the Local Rental Owners Collaborative.
LROC is a free program that aims to preserve affordable housing in the community by supporting local, independent rental owners impacted by missing revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meet Vantrice, today’s story!
Vantrice is a single mother of four, a full-time student, and a part-time worker. Before CRCD, Vantrice was homeless, sleeping in her van with her children with no place to go. She tells us how she struggled to find work and childcare resources that could help her with her situation. After struggling, she was referred to CRCD with hopes that she would find housing. We are happy to report that with CRCD support, Vantrice secured housing for her and her children; she has gone back to cosmetology school and is now receiving the support she needs to succeed.
“I like that [CRCD] were all there to support me. Anytime I needed help, I was able to just call and ask what I should do.”
Vantrice will be finishing cosmetology school in May 2022 and hopes to become successful in her new career with a goal to go back to her community and give makeovers to other women experiencing homelessness.
Vantrice is an example of true resilience! Her drive to support her family and help her community is the reason CRCD does the work that we do. We love being able to provide the resources and opportunities that our clients need to thrive. We’re excited for Vantrice’s new start in life, and we are rooting for her every step of the way!
Come join us at the 2022 LA Youth Count! We are searching for volunteers to help us in the Los Angeles County to survey our unhoused youth. This data will help us address the youth homelessness crisis in our communities and will better assist in providing more housing resources and other ongoing support. If you are part of a local organization, aid group, student, our faith-based community please share this with your teams.
The LA Youth Count will take place between February 23rd and March 4th, 2022. You can register to volunteer on your chosen time and day here:

It us up to all of us to help our unhoused neighbors and fight for their representation. We hope to see you!
Prior to the pandemic, South LA was already facing challenges to economic stability, as the median household income in the area is significantly lower than the LA County average with higher rates of unemployment. Approximately 42% of employed residents in South LA worked in manufacturing, retail, or transportation/warehousing - the 3 industries with the highest numbers of COVID cases in Los Angeles County. With close proximity employment sectors, workers were subject to COVID infection, unpredictable business closures and layoffs throughout the course of the pandemic.
Further, it is possible that, without the federal government’s Paycheck Protection Program loans, many South LA businesses would not have survived the pandemic. In response, this report recommends we prepare and connect residents to regional training and employment opportunities in high growth sectors that lead to family-sustaining wages.

We are excited to be part of Councilman Curren Price's new “Price Public Works” initiative. This environmental equity initiative was created to create cleaner and safer neighborhoods in District 9. Together with Los Angeles Sanitation & Environment, LA Conservation Corps, and our very own CRCD Enterprises crew, our goal is to take care of our streets and most importantly, improve the quality of life of our residents.
This partnership has contributed to the removal of thousands of tons of loose trash and debris, bulky items and illegal dumping from CD9 streets to date. Additionally, the dedicated crews have been addressing other areas of need such as w**d abatement, in the public right away of way, alley cleanups, corridor sweeps, parks and school zones.

Families with children under the age of 18 make up 43% of households in South LA, compared to 28% in the County. Prior to the pandemic, South LA experienced higher rates of chronic absenteeism among students (21%) than the City or Count average (12%).
Remote learning during 2020 presented a range of new challenges for student attendance and achievement with reliable internet and access to a computer quickly became points of disparity. South LA households were less likely to have access to the internet (28% lacked access) or a personal computer (13% of households lacked access) compared to the countywide average of 15% and 8 % respectively.
The pre-pandemic gaps in proficiency exams in both English and Math are especially concerning when you consider that South LA students are already faced with a disproportionate number of barriers which are likely to contribute to further broadening these inequities.
This collaborative research report, Resilience and Rebuilding, provides recommendations for improving educational pathways and equitable access to technology and broadband.
