John Eleby
Graduate Academic Senator
My name is John Michael Eleby, and I am currently your Graduate Academic Senator. I have five-plus years of experience advocating students in the past at Los Angeles Trade Technical College and currently at Cal State LA. During my time serving as a student leader, some of my accomplishments include obtaining students workersā wages, advocating for minority programs like Puente and Umoja, and assisting clubs to be successful on campus. I was the first student at my previous college to receive an Obama award for my service. I am currently advocating for more resources for grad students at Cal State LA. If I am elected to serve, I will continue to advocate on Graduate studentsā behalf and reach out to populations to receive their input on what else is needed to improve their educational journey. I am ready to serve anyone who needs assistance. āBecome the change you vision.ā
Nikki Farsa
Undergraduate Academic Senator
Hi Golden Eagles! My name is Nikki Farsa; I am a first-year student studying Biology at the college of Natural Social Sciences. I am running for Undergraduate Academic Senator! This election presents us with the choice to choose someone who can bring fresh ideas and perspectives. With my dedicated-hardworking personality, I can offer new ideas to brighten and change the dynamic to communicate and listen to the voices of our undergraduate class. I am asking for your vote! Here are a few ideas I have that we can accomplish together: -focus on the bettering of education and undergraduate involvement in extracurricular activities -Listen to everyone's voice; I try and compile ideas to best satisfy everyone's needs and expectations. -strengthen undergraduates' livelihoods outside the classroom so they can thrive inside the classroom The future of our campus depends on our ability to work together. Vote Nikki Farsa as your Undergraduate senator!
Sebastian Garcia
College of Natural and Social Sciences Representative
In the 2022-2023 student election as a pre-biology freshman in the beginning of his journey, running for office would be a privileged that I would honorably accept. I plan on advocating for the first time generational college students like myself, so these students can have smooth transitions and introduction into the sciences. I would assume that I bring diversity into the elections since I represent the minority in the local community. If elected for the representative of the natural and social sciences department I would promote the importance of this field to the campus and community since it would be crucial in many future careers. In order to reach my goals and be successful in the medical industry, I believe following up with this decision will help me access as much resources and mentorship. As I say, everyday is chance to be better since success is not a result but progress.
Shane Cathcart
College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology Representative
As a student representative of the ECST college, I hope to make all your voices heard. As your representative, I will be available to the community and give students a voice. I will strive to serve our community to the best of my ability and always give my best effort. I would be honored to be elected as ECST student representative, and I believe we can bring about great things.
Marlen Trigueros
College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology Representative
I am eager to fulfill this role once again. I believe that my previous involvement as an ECST representative was not an accurate representation of my work ethic and character. If elected, I am excited and determined to represent myself and the ECST college accurately. I believe that my previous involvement has given me insight into the needs and wants of the ECST college, thus allowing me to confidently say that I will work tirelessly alongside the entire ASI faculty to fulfill those needs and reach the goals of the ECST college.
Jacob Argain
Running for College of Business and Economics Representative
Cal State LA can do better. During my tenure as your representative, I will improve three aspects of CBE life that will directly impact youā facilities, staffing, and resources. When you have 10 minutes between your third and fourth classes of the day, what do you need? CAFFEINE. Letās re-open that shuttered espresso bar in the courtyard. When you meet with an advisor, you expect them to answer your questions. Support staff are poorly trained and resourced. Letās ask the University to support those who support us. When we graduate, we expect to be employed. Letās increase the availability of career and extracurricular resources which meet students where they are. As CBE students, we represent the largest group of students by major, and we deserve to be proud of our school. I humbly request you support my candidacy to represent you for student government.
Elin Olausson
Running for College of Arts and Letters Representative
In order for us to be prepared for the career that is ahead of us, it is important to manage our time wisely and make good decisions during our time at Cal State LA. However, being a student is not always easy. There is a lot to keep up with all at the same time. Therefore, my goal is to make your voice heard and hear what tools you think would help you to be as prepared as possible for what is coming next. I want to bring forward your thoughts and help you to make your time at Cal State LA as smooth as possible.
Tremon Everett
Running for Diversity and Inclusion Officer
A vote for me is a vote for inclusiveness. We should strive to make everyone feel welcomed.
Emily Chen
Running for Secretary/Treasurer
Hey Golden Eagles! My name is Emily Chen and I am running for ASI Secretary/Treasurer. Previously, I have served as the ASI College of Arts and Letters Representative, and worked to build school spirit and better our college experience. My long involvement has allowed me to work alongside many other ASI student leaders and staff members. I am prepared to chair meetings, organize projects, and establish good relationships. Additionally, the Secretary/Treasurer chairs the Strategic Planning Committee, where I have sat and participated in this academic year. As your Secretary/Treasurer, I wish to take the knowledge I acquired from my previous involvement, and apply it to this position by working as a team, voicing my ideas, and carrying out my duties and responsibilities; all in the ASI environment that I am already familiar with. Thank you so much for reading and I hope I have earned your vote!
Milton Han
Running for Vice President for Academic Governance
Hey Golden Eagles, My name is Milton Han and I am running for Vice President of Academic Governance. I am currently a Biochemistry major going into my fourth year. During the 2020-2021 academic year, it has been my honor to serve as your Associate Justice and sit on Cabinet of Academic Senators, as well as the Bylaws and Codes of Procedure Committee, where I observed committee members carry out their duties as representatives of the student body. Since I sat on the Cabinet of Academic Senators, I was able to learn the logistics of the senators' duties and their tasks throughout the academic year. Additionally, through my duties as Associate Justice, I was entrusted to understand the main governing documents, policies, and procedures of ASI while also upholding Robertās Rules of Order during committee meetings. Additionally, I have had other experience within student organizations, serving as Vice President of EEPC, a student-run organization for Early Entrance Program Students. As Vice President of EEPC, I voiced the opinions and concerns of the students to the club, helped organize events for students within the program, and communicated directly with staff and faculty. As your VPAG, I will do my utmost to represent everyone, work collaboratively and cohesively with the rest of ASI, and most importantly listen to your ideas and concerns. Also, I look to bridge the gap between students and faculty, ensuring that communication between the two stays healthy. Thank you for your time and I hope to get your vote.
Brian Nguyen
Running for Vice President for Administration
Hey Golden Eagles, I am Brian Nguyen, and I am running for ASI Vice President of Administration. It has been my pleasure to serve as your ASI Spirit Commissioner for the 2020-2021 academic year and College of Natural and Social Sciences Representative for the 2021-2022 academic year. During those times, I have worked with students to develop the best way to build school spirit and involve students. I have also had experience recruiting volunteers for the Screaming Eagles Program, initiating crowd participation at school events, and maintaining school spirit initiatives and programs. Along the way, I have met many new people, such as with the Assistant Director of Athletics to ensure communication/collaboration between ASI and Athletics, sitting on University Spirit and Athletics collaboration committees, and even assisting with ASI General Election planning and promotion. Additionally, I am very familiar with the commissioners' work, having worked with our Housing and Residence Life Representative, Environmental Affairs Commissioner, Military-Connected Student Representative, and Public Relations & Marketing Commissioner. Last academic year, having gotten to work with a co-rep, I am prepared to work as a team, with commissioners whose work I am familiar with, and sitting on meetings and voicing my ideas. Much of my time has been spent collaborating with students, clubs, and departments on campus to understand student needs and promote them. As your representative, I would listen to everyone and make sure that all ideas are heard. I have been with ASI for two academic years and hope to continue!
Mike Garcia
Running for Vice President for Academic Governance
My name is Mike Angel Garcia, I am a graduate student in the department of political science and I am running for ASI Vice President of Academic Governance. Having experience outside of the state of California, being a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps and obtaining a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University, I was drawn to Cal State LA because there is no better place to be than Los Angeles, but there is so much room for improvement. I intend to use my life experience to advocate for a better college experience for all students by working with the president and other elected officials. Diversity, equity, inclusiveness, health and well-being, student voice empowerment, and sustainability are the major principles that guide my platform. By Charging forward, we can all work together to make Cal State LA a better and safer place to learn and succeed.
Andrew Klein
Running for Vice President for Finance
Hello, my name is Andrew Klein, and I am running to be your Vice President for Finance. I am majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance. I currently serve as the College of Business and Economics (B&E) Representative in Associated Students, Inc. (ASI). As the B&E representative, I have hosted successful college-specific events such as āMeet the Clubs of the College of Business and Economicsā and a āDiscussion with Facultyā. I am the chair of the ASI Cabinet of College of Representatives, which works together to support student services, initiatives, and advocate for the needs of students in their respective colleges. As a college representative, I am a voting member on the ASI Board of Directors, the ASI Finance Committee, and the Cal State LA Foundation Board. On the Finance Committee, we oversee a $1.5 Million budget that serves student needs. We have approved funding for our recognized clubs and organizations' events on campus, increased funding for the textbook scholarship program, and allocated funds to several of our campus support areas. My ASI experience and academics make me a qualified candidate to be your ASI Vice President For Finance. I will strive for transparency in the budget process and prioritize student needs. I ask that you join me in this process and together we work toward this goal, we can achieve great things. I humbly ask you, to vote for me, Andrew Klein for your Vice President for Finance. Thank you.
Joshua Gamboa
Running for President
I am Joshua Gamboa I am a second-year Accounting Major and I am running for the position of ASI President of Cal State LA. If given the position of ASI President of Cal State LA I will do what I see is best for the school and its students. Always putting the physical, mental, and academic well-being of each student above all. I will look to improve the school's morale and spirit and try to instill more school pride. I will start by promoting more school events, clubs, and even areas where students may socialize and get to know each other. As a sophomore, I have barely seen clubs and activities that I could join to try and meet people. Being in this position starting in a new place I believe that it is essential to have a place to become comfortable and create lifelong connections. We as a school must come together and that cannot be done without the proper events and information. Working hard with club leaders, professors, and other faculty to create and promote events to make all who attend Cal State LA feel welcomed and included. I believe that we can improve this school, but that can only happen if everyone is heard and that is what I intended to do. This will soon be our alma mater and we have to leave it behind with pride.
Jaime Arellano
Running for President
Hey Golden Eagles, my name is Jaime Eduardo Arellano, I got my BA in Political Science, Pre-Law, and I am a graduate student in American Politics running to be your next ASI President. I am running because I envision a future where the interest of the student body is put first, rather than last. I am running because I value students over profit, not profit over students, and solemnly believe students should not be paying more every year on school expenses alone. Most importantly, I am running to ensure Cal State LA is performing at its highest capability to ensure all students and faculty a safe transition back to normality after years of combating the COVID-19 Pandemic. I believe in three things. We must improve the mental health of all students, we must reduce the cost of overall school expenses, and we must enhance all aspects of our student life and school spirit for years to come. When elected into office, it will be my sole mission to direct more funding towards CAPS, to increase the number of therapists to accommodate the number of students, and to improve the accessibility of resources for all students. I will also make it my mission to lead the fight towards finally lowering school prices all across the board, reducing the prices for parking passes, and supporting a student body coalition in order to fight tuition prices at the highest levels of the CSU System.
