LASD Reserve Forces Detail The Reserve Forces Detail is the administrative headquarters for the LASD's Reserve Program, Explore

The Reserve Forces Bureau is the administrative headquarters for the Department's Reserve Program, Explorer Program, Mounted Programs, and Sheriff's Advisory Councils. With over 800 Reserves and 600 Explorers, the Sheriff's Department has a wealth of resources that augment the various units on a daily basis. Reserve Forces Bureau recruits new Reserve candidates, processes their applications, and c

onducts pre-employment investigations. Upon successful completion, the applicant will attend a Reserve Academy, and when graduated, the Reserve will work at an assignment of their choice, suitable to their skill level. The Reserve Program is also responsible for overseeing and maintaining training, conducting annual unit inspections, and the coordination of personnel at various events. Explorer recruits also attend an academy like the Reserves, and are eligible to work a myriad of assignments offered. Both the Reserve and Explorer Academies have an agreement with various participating agencies who use the Department's resources and expertise to train their personnel as well.

This evening, we spent some time training on our SAR mapping software. We learned the many tools CalTopo has to help us track our searchers, log clues, and make search assignments.

A big thank you to Chuck Rozner from Altadena Mountain Rescue Team for the great class.

We asked the pizza delivery man if he would deliver dinner to our rescuers that had been 500 feet over the side of Malibu Canyon for over 5 hours, but he said he forgot his harness. 08/05/2023

"I've just been in a traffic collision! What do I do?"

“I’ve just been in a traffic accident! What do I do??”

1. If anybody is injured, call 911.

2. If you are able to, take a cellphone picture of the rear-end of the other party’s vehicle to capture the license plate and make/model —just in case they take off from the accident.

3. If it is safe to do so and the vehicles are able to move, pull off to the side of the roadway so as to not block traffic.

4. If there are no injuries, but a hit-and-run occurred, or any driver is unlicensed, call the station at (661)260-4000 to request a deputy to respond.

5. If there are no injuries and all parties have a driver’s license, then exchange information. Use your cellphone to take a picture of the driver’s license, registration, and insurance information. Try to get the other driver’s telephone number so that the insurance company can contact them (this is not legally required but convenient).

Stay safe, drive safe SCV! 🚗 🚙

It's still hot out there.
It's that time of the year.

Very simple advice. Triple digit temps are on tap for the greater for the foreseeable future. Do not hike unless it’s very early in the morning. We strongly urge you to avoid hiking during daytime (excessive heat) or evening (heat and darkness) hours. Know your limits and fitness level. Dress appropriately and carry more hydration than you think you need. Dehydration happens very quickly. DO NOT HIKE AT ALL WITH DOGS IN THIS WEATHER. Dogs deteriorate much quicker than humans, and the signs of their dehydration and distress often go overlooked. Leave your 4-legged buddy at home so they will be there to greet you when you return. .
