A Special Day with First Responders ๐งฉโพ๏ธ๐๐โค๏ธ๐๐๐๐ฅ
Today, the LACoFD joined with the San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center to host its third annual Sirens of Silence event, A Special Day with First Responders.
Taking place during Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month, this sensory-friendly event welcomed families with oved ones with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other special needs to meet and engage with first responders, health agencies, and community partners.
Over 400 families saw and touched apparatus and equipment in a sensory-sensitive space; tried on fire and law enforcement personal protective equipment; and mutually shared with first responders on how to best approach loved ones with special needs; and learned how to protect their families in emergencies.
It was a great day!
To learn more about how the #LACoFD Sirens of Silence program promotes #ASD and special needs awareness, education, and inclusion through training and extensive resources, please visit our website:

Last week, the #LACoFD hosted its first-ever Womenโs Fire Uniform and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) expo.
Our women firefighters had an opportunity to be measured for uniforms and PPE that fit their bodies and keep them safe.
As shared by Supervisor Janice Hahn, โOur women firefighters and lifeguards go to work every day to save lives, but theyโve only ever had access to ill-fitting uniforms designed for men. Last month my motion with Supervisor Lindsey Horvath changed that, and LACoFD hosted its first ever Womenโs Uniform & PPE Expo.โ
The LACoFD and Women's Fire League would like to thank the Board of Supervisors for their unwavering commitment and support of the LACoFD.
Itโs Week 6 of the #LACoFD Womenโs Fire Prep Academy! ๐ฅ๐
Enjoy as these aspiring firefighters tackle new challenges, guided by the Women's Fire League.

Lithium-ion Battery PSA
The #LACoFD and #LAAFCA strongly encourage residents to not under estimate the risk that Lithium-ion batteries pose.
Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries are commonly used in home electronics such as phones, laptop computers, tablets, e-scooters, and other devices requiring plug-in charging. These batteries are small and powerful, but when used incorrectly, they can overheat, catch fire, or explode. Fire departments across the nation continue to respond to fires caused by lithium-ion batteries.
SAFETY TIPS:
* Purchase and use devices that are listed by a qualified testing laboratory.
* Always follow the manufacturerโs instructions.
* Only use the battery that is designed for the device.
* Put batteries in the device the right way.
* Only use the charging cord that came with the device.
* Do not charge a device under your pillow, on your bed, or on a couch.
* Do not keep charging the device or device battery after it is fully charged.
* Plug directly into a wall electrical outlet for charging.
* Keep batteries at room temperature and away from heat or direct sunlight. Do not charge them at temperatures below 32ยฐF (0ยฐC) or above 105ยฐF (40ยฐC).
* Store batteries away from anything that can catch fire.
* Do not charge a device while sleeping.
* Do not charge a device near your primary exit.
STOP USING THE DEVICE/BATTERY IF:
* You notice an odor
* There is a change in color or shape
* Too much heat
* Leaking or odd noises
If any of the above happens and you feel in danger, call 9-1-1. If safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire.
BATTERY DISPOSAL:
* Do not put lithium-ion batteries in the trash.
* Recycling is always the best option.
* Take them to a battery recycling location or contact your community for disposal instructions.
* Do not put discarded batteries in piles.

#LACoFD Division 2, with the assistance of our Camps Section, conducted a prescribed burn today at Bonnelli Regional Park. A total of 13.5 acres were burned.
The goals and objectives of the prescribed burn included:
๐ฑ Restoring habitat by removing dead invasive one-hour fuels such as thistle, cheat grass, and mustard while maintaining the health of native plants.
๐ Providing a landscape to apply firing operations learned as a part of the CA-219 class.
๐๏ธ Providing a benefit to Los Angeles County Parks.
If the weather cooperates, additional areas (approximately 7 acres) will be burned tomorrow in advance of the rain.
