Because Franklin is the “Heart of Highland Park”, I have advocated for our school to get a “facelift” - Painting is happening now! I asked that the Welcome messages and the class murals be saved. This was agreed to … until today.. 😩 Solutions are challenging and money, time, and personnel are an issue.
From the District:
The background paint for these murals has faded to the point that it now looks transparent; the issue is that applying the protective cover in such a condition will cause the issue to be more noticeable.
Below are the potential solutions:
* Apply the protective mural cover as initially discussed, understanding and accepting that the problem with the background color fading will be more noticeable.
* At one point, some of these murals were eggs bombed; time and sun have dried the egg building a crust over some walls and ceilings. Before painting, the contractor will scrape the egg residues off the ceiling; However, the murals cannot be scraped, or their color will get pilled. The potential solutions are similar to the ones above.
* Apply the protective mural cover as initially discussed, understanding and accepting that the problem will be more noticeable.
* Scrape the egg remains and paint over the murals with the same colors we are applying on the lower portion of the wall – 0516 Diamond Stud (Main wall color) or 0518 Let it Rain (Wall accent color).
* The school gets a muralist to correct them before we apply the anti-graffiti coating.

I don’t know of a muralist, nor have the money, and am fighting against time ( contractor is due to finish by the end of this year)
Know that I have tried to preserve the traditions, yet I understand the community deserves a school that demands high quality work. Never expected to have todays news.
