"People in this country have a right to be safe and yet, we’ve seen Muslim communities targeted, attacks on mosques, and other minority communities singled out." - Prime Minister Keir Starmer

MPAC expresses profound concern over the recent surge in anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim riots across the United Kingdom. The suspect in the tragic Southport stabbing incident that resulted in the death of three children, and left 12 children and two adults in critical condition, has been misrepresented by extremist misinformation campaigns as a Muslim undocumented immigrant. Rudakubana was born in Wales to Christian Rwandan parents.

This disinformation has incited violent riots, leading to attacks on mosques, assaults on law enforcement, and unchecked violence.

MPAC condemns the deeply troubling actions by those who desecrated monuments and burned the U.S. flag outside of Union Station in Washington, D.C.

The vast majority of protesters have led an effective and peaceful campaign, adhering to the principles of non-violence and using lawful means to advocate for justice. While the circumstances that led to these actions remain unclear, this behavior undermines the movement and alienates supporters of the Pro-Palestinian cause.

Such actions do not represent the millions of Americans who have peacefully expressed their opposition to Israel’s genocide in Gaza. There is absolutely no room for such deplorable behavior in our society.

Throughout American history, various tools— including resistance, advocacy, engagement, and boycott— have been used in the struggle for justice. Creating lasting change requires several of these tactics, as well as collective effort from everyone. MPAC is committed to eliminating injustice and disenfranchisement from within the system. Through our engagement we aim to advance justice in America and reform policies to benefit not just American Muslims, but all Americans. “Unfortunately, right-wing organizations like AIPAC and the ADL have co-opted the voice of the Jewish community, and they have used their platform to ensure all those who oppose Israeli policies are tarred as antisemitic. In doing so, they insist that the US national security apparatus must stand up in their defense– often at the expense of our community.”

President Biden's Withdrawal: A Turning Point for American Democracy and the Democratic Party -

" As the Democratic Party pivots to discuss a new presidential ticket, we must be clear about what led us here. Biden's decision was not only driven by a poor debate performance or a lackluster campaign in the subsequent weeks. As early as March of this year, MPAC urged Biden to heed the voices of Americans speaking their conscience about the genocide of the Palestinian people."

"We know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians." ― Nelson Mandela, 1997

Today, on , we honor the legacy of a leader whose unwavering commitment to justice and equality inspired movements across the globe. South Africa's steadfast support for Palestine is deeply rooted in the shared history of their own struggles against an apartheid state and their quest for liberation. Under Mandela's leadership, South Africa consistently amplified the Palestinian cause on the world stage and provided crucial humanitarian aid in times of need.

As we celebrate Mandela's profound impact, we must take heed of his words and continue his mission by advocating for the oppressed and championing human rights for all facing injustices. Let us build a world that allows the next generation to experience a life of freedom and dignity.

As Dr. Farha Abbasi aptly noted, Persistent, or Continuous Traumatic Stress Disorder (CTSD), a term first developed to describe the experiences of children facing inescapable conditions in apartheid South Africa, captures the brutal, ongoing reality of the Palestinian people. Their suffering, marked by violence, displacement, food insecurity, lack of medical care, and loss of family, demands our urgent attention. We must continue to uplift their stories and raise awareness of the unjust conditions facing Gazans every day.

To learn about the mental health crisis facing our communities, and to hear more from Dr. Abbasi, watch our full National American Muslim Policy Conference (NAMPC) panels by tapping the link below now.

07/04/2024

This Independence Day, MPAC recognizes the 12 government officials who resigned in protest of U.S. policy towards Gaza, Israel, and Palestine—choosing to uphold justice over the convenience of silence. Their principled stance embodies the true essence of democracy, fighting against the tyranny imposed by our administration.

The policies put forth by the Biden administration have emboldened the Israeli government to commit genocide against the Palestinian people with little concern of being held accountable for those crimes. The resignation of these 12 officials highlights the profound ethical dilemmas they have faced in their respective positions. They stood up against policies they believed to be morally reprehensible and contrary to international humanitarian laws, risking their careers for the greater good.

Today, let us take heed of their courageous actions and use this moment as a reminder that the strength of our democracy lies in our willingness to speak out against injustice, wherever it occurs.

If there are unjust policies, there must be civil disobedience. Students are facing increased silencing and persecution as they draw attention to the ongoing genocide in Gaza and demand accountability from our government and universities for their complicity in this humanitarian crisis. MPAC stands ready to support and defend their courageous efforts.

06/01/2024

This recent move by our congressional leaders to invite Israeli PM Netanyahu to speak before a joint session of Congress highlights the US’s selective human rights agenda. While Palestinians face daily oppression, our leaders roll out the red carpet for those perpetuating these injustices. It’s time that our elected officials reevaluate their priorities to serve the American people’s interests if they want to seek re-election.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness — these words must be more than just ink on paper. They must be upheld as the foundation of our actions and policies. We must hold our leaders accountable to ensure these truths are self-evident, grounded in justice and equality for all.

MPAC and partner organizations recently met with Attorney General Merrick Garland and other senior officials, to address the concerning rise in hate crimes against communities who support the rights of the Palestinian people.
