Roxie Theatre - Los Angeles

Roxie Theatre - Los Angeles Advocating for the reuse of the Roxie on Broadway. Seating 1600, the Roxie was the last theatre built in the Broadway Theatre district in 1931.

Designed by architect J.M. Cooper, it sits on the site of the razed Quinn's Superba Theatre. It's Art Deco charm makes it different from the rest of the bunch on Broadway - and one of the largest reasons for saving. The Roxie was equipped for live stage performances (including a pipe organ), but its long, narrow auditorium was intended primarily for motion picture display. In the 1980's it ran as

a Spanish language house, until it closed for good in 1989. Today the lobby serves as retail, while the auditorium sits dark the balcony still has seats but the main floor seats have been removed. The iconic red ticketbooth is preserved sitting on the main floor in the auditorium as well.
