When someone living with dementia accuses you of stealing, lying, or hiding something, correcting the facts may not calm the fear.

Try responding to the feeling first:
• Stay calm and use a gentle voice.
• Avoid arguing—the situation feels real to them.
• Reassure them that they are safe.
• Help look for the missing item, then redirect to a familiar activity, room, music, or memory.
• Keep the environment quiet, calm, and familiar.

These moments can be hard. You do not have to figure them out alone. Call 844-435-7259 for free, compassionate support.

Sigamos llevando conocimiento, esperanza y apoyo a nuestra comunidad.
Porque la educación transforma vidas. 💜

Support should reflect your language, culture, and community.

During Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the strength, stories, and contributions of Latino families across Los Angeles—and reaffirm our commitment to making Alzheimer’s and dementia education and support easier to access in Spanish.

From community education and caregiver workshops to programs like Unidos en el cuidado, Alzheimer’s Los Angeles is here to help families find trusted information, practical tools, and compassionate support.

For free support in English or Spanish, call 844-435-7259 or visit AlzheimersLA.org.
