But in a freezer, an unheated parking garage or an attic, that standing water would freeze and burst the pipe. Your annual fire sprinkler inspection checks the system from the outside. The 5-year certification is different — it looks inside the pipe. NFPA 25 requires opening the system at set internal points to inspect for corrosion, scale and obstructions: buildup you can't see from the floor that can choke water flow exactly when the system needs to perform.
