Joe Talks Presents

Last month we talked to two of our U.S. Army Marksmanship team members and Olympians1st Lt. Amber English and Sgt. Phillip Jungman. They are great representatives of the true talent we have in the Army.

This month we felt it was appropriate to recognize the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and to talk to some Soldiers who made the decision to join the Army after those events. (https://www.podcasts.com/joe-talks-presents/episode/911-commemoration-episode-1st-cavalry-division-soldiers-talk-about-joining-the-army-after-911)

Sgt. 1st. Class Williams Fernandez Calvet served in the Air Force in his native country of Peru for 11 years. When the events of 9/11 happened, he went to talk to a recruiter.

Maj. Shawn Scott has a family history of military service. Though still a high school senior when the towers fell, Scott felt the need to be a part of the Army and make a difference.

Both of these Soldiers are with 1st Cavalry Division. It should also be noted that 1st CAV is celebrating its 100th birthday this month also. Find them on your favorite social media sites and experience the festivities along with them.

I’m honored to have spent the Thanksgiving holiday in Alaska getting to play for our men and women of the United States Army. When I was asked to go, I didn’t hesitate. Having never been to Alaska I didn’t know what to expect. My mind was blown! Alaska in itself is truly amazing but the best part of playing these military shows are getting to converse with the soldiers. It feels strange when they “thank me“ for being there. Ultimately the reason I come is because I’m thankful for them and their sacrifice. If I can bring a little bit of home to them, that’s what matters. They go where they are told and don’t question it, to protect us. My hats off to all of our troops foreign and domestic. Thank you USO Fort Wainwright Fort Greely U.S. Army Entertainment Office for bringing me and Natalie Stovall up to entertain these fine folks. I am proud to now be a “Rugged Professional“ 🇺🇸❄️
