LAUSD Region East

LAUSD Region East The official page of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Region East.

Second largest in the nation, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) enrolls more than 640,000 students in kindergarten through 12th grade, at over 900 schools, and 187 public charter schools. The boundaries spread over 720 square miles and include the mega-city of Los Angeles as well as all or parts of 31 smaller municipalities plus several unincorporated sections of Southern California.

All youth achieving, the mission of LAUSD, is reflected in continued double-digit growth on the state Academic Performance Index (API); the upward trend in the graduation rate, progress in the pass rate on the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) and other academic indicators. LA schools boast more winners of the United States Academic Decathlon championships-12-than any other District in this country. Add to those impressive victories, outstanding individual student and team achievements in: science, mathematics, social studies, language arts, foreign and dual languages, business and entrepreneurial skills, the visual and performing arts, and athletics. Nationally recognized by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine for serving healthy, low fat and vegetarian school lunches, LAUSD's standards also call for: whole grains, low sodium, locally grown fruits and vegetables and no trans fat; flavored milk or carbonated beverages. Founded in 1853, the District, today, counts more than 115 new schools and campuses, thanks to the nation's largest public works project, funded by bond measures, a testament to broad voter support.

At just 16 years old, Jaden Dunbar is already redefining what’s possible. 🎓

A graduating senior from Early College Academy at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, Jaden will earn both her high school diploma and SIX associate degrees before beginning her next chapter at UC Merced this fall. Her academic journey reflects determination, resilience and an extraordinary commitment to learning.

Along the way, she also earned both CSU General Education Breadth (CSU GE-Breadth) Certificate and the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) Certificate, completing rigorous college coursework while balancing high school studies with excellence.

As she heads to the University of California, Merced with the prestigious Bobcat Grant, Jaden’s story stands as a powerful example of the opportunities created through dual enrollment and early college pathways. Her future is bright, and this is only the beginning. 💙📚

🦷✨ Big smiles are on the move!

Today, LA Unified and QueensCare Health Alliance unveiled two new mobile dental clinic units that will help bring free, high-quality dental care directly to children and young adults across LA.

The new clinics will expand access to care — regardless of insurance status — helping remove barriers to care and keep students healthy, confident and ready to learn - because every student deserves a reason to smile.

A special shoutout to the Gratts Learning Academy for Young Scholars students who helped name the new units and joined in today’s celebration!
