Today I conducted notorial services at the Men's Central Jail in Los Angeles, CA.
Men's Central Jail, constructed in 1963, is one of the oldest county jail facilities in California. It forms a core part of the Los Angeles County Jail System, which stands as the largest local jail system in the United States.While the overall county system holds an average daily population of roughly 12,500 to 12,700 inmates, Men's Central Jail itself has an official bed capacity of 5,640. However, it frequently operates beyond this limit due to persistent overcrowding issues. Over the decades, the facility has drawn intense public scrutiny and legal controversy over its deteriorating, sixty-year-old infrastructure and unsafe living conditions. This ultimately led the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to approve a multi-year plan aimed at entirely closing the aging facility.
