The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will deploy a statewide Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) focused on impaired driving from 6 p.m. Saturday, June 20, through 6 a.m. Sunday, June 21. All uniformed CHP personnel statewide will be conducting traffic enforcement.

"Summer brings more people onto California’s roadways, increasing the risks of impaired driving. Impaired driving continues to claim hundreds of lives in California each year and forever changes countless others," stated CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee. "These tragedies are entirely preventable. Plan ahead, never drive impaired, and help us keep California’s roads safe. CHP officers will be out in force, removing impaired drivers from our roads and helping ensure everyone reaches their destination safely.”

The CHP remains committed to reducing preventable crashes and saving lives through education, enforcement and personal responsibility. The safest choice is simple: never drive impaired.

The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of

Several CHP Los Banos officers were honored yesterday by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) during the Law Enforcement Recognition Awards for their efforts in stopping impaired drivers and helping prevent tragedies on our roadways before they happen.

Congratulations to Officer Natasha Ocegueda and Officer Issac Gutierrez. Officer Gutierrez has since transferred to the CHP Merced Area.

We congratulate all the Officers presented with the MADD award for their commitment to keeping our communities safe and thank Mothers Against Drunk Driving for their continued partnership in the fight against impaired driving.

Driving at speeds of 136 mph in a 55 mph zone will never end well. Luckily nobody was injured. A blown motor, expensive court and tow fees. Appropriate enforcement action was taken. Speed limits are established for a reason and CHP Officers will be stopping violators at high speeds.

🚔 CHP Central Division officers worked tirelessly throughout the Memorial Day Holiday Enforcement Period to help keep California’s roadways safe.

During the enforcement period, officers issued 5,009 written citations, including:

✅ 397 seatbelt violations
🚗 3,048 speeding violations
🍺 183 DUI arrests

Tragically, despite enforcement efforts, there were still 3 fatal collisions during the holiday period. Two of those crashes involved unrestrained occupants, underscoring the critical importance of wearing a seatbelt every trip, every time.

Seatbelts save lives. Slow down, drive responsibly, and never drive impaired.
