Town of Los Gatos - Government

Town of Los Gatos - Government Small Town Service, Community Stewardship, Future Focus Los Gatos is one of Santa Clara County’s oldest communities, incorporated in 1887.

The Town of Los Gatos is nestled at the base of the Sierra Azules, and is located approximately 60 miles south of San Francisco, in the southwestern portion of Santa Clara County where the Santa Clara Valley meets the lower slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Los Gatos prides itself as a self contained community. Over 3,000 businesses serve the residents and act as a destination point for visitors

who are attracted to its restaurants, hotels and variety of shops within a pedestrian oriented downtown setting. The Town is also an inclusive community with the full mix of ages, family sizes and incomes. Los Gatos has many parks and greenbelt areas, as well as a vibrant downtown area. Downtown Los Gatos is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the model of what communities strive to achieve in a downtown.

On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the Los Gatos Town Council will consider proposed changes and additions to the Town’s Objective Design Standards for Multi-Family and Mixed-Use Projects.

The Los Gatos Objective Design Standards Update Project will provide additions and modifications to the 2023 Objective Design Standards for Qualifying Multi-family and Mixed-Use Residential Development. This work is part of the larger effort to implement the Town’s adopted 6th Cycle Housing Element. Specifically, this effort will update the current Objective Design Standards to:

• Reflect the height and scale of development that the Town anticipates;
• Require smooth transitions between development of different height and scale;
• Ensure that new development is high-quality in terms of materials and detail;
• Regulate architectural style in a way that is specific and consistent with existing patterns;
• Acknowledge the input and priorities of the community; and
• Ensure that the Objective Design Standards are transparent and easy to interpret.

More information, including the draft document, is available online at https://www.losgatosca.gov/3040/Objective-Design-Standards-Update-Projec.

The public is encouraged to attend the Town Council meeting on September 1, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. to provide comments. Participate in the meeting either in person or remotely.

Community members may submit written comments to Sean Mullin at [email protected] by 11:00 a.m. on September 1 for inclusion in the Town Council Staff Report, Addendum, or Desk Item.

Meeting agendas are posted and publicly distributed no later than the Friday prior to each meeting date. The agenda, staff reports, and teleconference details will be available on the Town website at www.LosGatosCA.gov/AgendasAndVideos.
