BAHC had the privilege of sponsoring and tabling at our first ever Sensory Sunday at CuriOdyssey Science Playground and Zoo last month.

Sensory Sunday is a FREE event for visitors with sensory sensitivities.
Visitors, caregivers, and family can attend for an afternoon of:

Exploring the exhibit galleries, zoo, and playground
Guided science activities and Animal Encounters
Varied sensory experiences with keyed map
Sensory support kits available for use
Storytime with alternative seating options
Designated break spaces with fidget toys, dimmed lights, and sitting areas

It was an amazing turnout and we loved being able to participate, stay tuned for the next one!

Some pics from the 2024 SARC Superhero 5k in San Jose this past weekend. What an amazing turn out and fun day! Some great performances by the Dream Achievers, The New Hope Band, Latizmo Hip Hop Productions, and tons of fun activities and wonderful costumes. BAHC had the privilege of being one of sponsors to help make this event possible. Until next year!

Had a busy day today of back to back presentations on our new program offerings, Making Homes Work, our Home Modification Program and Legacy Homes Program, a long term housing solution for people with I/DD.

BAHC had the privilege of attending the African American Conference for Individuals and Families of Individuals with Special Needs this past weekend.

They had some great speakers including Irene De La Rosa, LCSW, Associate Director at SARC, Charles "Chappie" Jones, the former Vice Mayor of San Jose, Jacquelyn Galbreath Rabouin, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, and Sergeant Jamil Carter from SJPD.

Some amazing info was shared as well as resources for caregivers and parents of people with I/DD.

BAHC was a last minute addition to the Special Needs Trust Seminars that are being put on this week by Gilfix and La Poll Associates! We will be here today at the Elk's Lodge in Palo Alto for the 2pm session as well as the Thursday sessions in Santa Clara, sharing information about our organization, specifically our Legacy Homes Program. Happy Monday! We are excited to announce that this month we will be attending the African American Conference for Individuals and Families of Individuals with Special Needs at Overfelt High School. Hope to see some familiar faces and excited to see some new faces! Stay tuned for other upcoming events that we will be attending this year.

Stable and comfortable housing is essential in order to keep your mental health in check. For many of us, housing may never be a concern, but could you imagine having to constantly worry about where you might be living or if that home is going to be comfortable based on your needs? This is the struggle many people with I/DD face on a regular basis, not just getting housing, but whether or not that home will be properly fitted to them.

Una Casa Mas is a Bay Area Housing Corp fund that helps ensure people's homes are modified to their personal needs and to allow them to age in place. The funds can also be used for general repairs or maintenance that perhaps an individual with I/DD does not have the means to do themselves.
