Three Arrested in Connection with Hit-and-Run Crash That Left Bicyclist in Critical Condition
On May 13, 2026, Valencia County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the area of El Cerro Loop Road and Wi******er Lane in reference to a hit-and-run crash. Deputies arrived on scene where a 32-year-old male, identified as Adrian Cuevas, was actively being assessed by the Valencia County Fire Department. Due to the nature of his injuries, Cuevas was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
The investigation revealed that Cuevas had been riding his bicycle in the northbound lane of El Cerro Loop when he was struck from behind by a motor vehicle. The vehicle, identified as a black 2014 Toyota Camry registered to Crystal Lopez, fled the scene of the crash.
On May 15, 2026, the Valencia County Criminal Investigations Division was asked to assist with the investigation. On that date, a call for service was generated at the Valencia County Sheriff's Office regarding a delayed hit-and-run report. A male identified as Joshua Lopez, Crystal Lopez, and a juvenile male identified as Julian Lopez were escorted into the Sheriff's Office, where multiple interviews were conducted.
At the conclusion of these interviews, it was determined that on the night of May 13, 2026, at approximately 10:22 p.m., Julian Lopez was driving northbound on El Cerro Loop in the black Toyota Camry. A black SUV traveling southbound on El Cerro Loop reportedly swerved into the northbound lane, causing Julian to swerve to avoid it, at which time Cuevas was struck by the front passenger side of the Toyota Camry. Julian Lopez then left the area without calling for aid.
The investigation further revealed that Julian's mother, Crystal Lopez, and an additional female, later identified as Rachel Silguero, met with Julian at a residence near La Ladera Road. All three individuals traveled back to the scene of the crash, where Silguero contacted Emergency Services and told Crystal and Julian to go home. Crystal and Julian returned to their residence and stored the vehicle in the garage. This vehicle was later seized by the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office under search warrant.
At the crash scene, Siguero met with deputies and provided a false statement, lying about her involvement in the incident.
A warrant was issued for Julian Lopez for accidents involving death or personal injuries and duty to render aid. He was taken into custody and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center in Bernalillo County. An additional warrant was issued for Crystal Lopez for tampering with evidence, two counts of conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and resisting, evading, and obstructing. She was taken into custody and booked into the Valencia County Detention Center.
An arrest warrant was also granted for Rachel Silguero for tampering with evidence, two counts of conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, resisting, evading, and obstructing, and false reporting. Silguero was taken into custody on May 15, 2026, at her place of work. She was additionally charged with driving with a revoked license and was booked into the Valencia County Detention Center.
At the time of this release Mr. Cuevas is still being treated for his injuries and is listed as being in critical but stable condition.
This remains an active investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Valencia County Sheriff's Office at (505) 866-2400.
