Valencia County Office of Emergency Management

Valencia County Office of Emergency Management To achieve a self-sustaining culture of emergency preparedness for all individuals and communities within Valencia County.

Our MISSION is accomplished by continual coordination with other County departments, municipalities, surrounding jurisdictions, state and federal agencies, and community groups to help ensure all available resources and personnel are identified and coordinated during major emergency situations. Emergency management is based on a cycle of continuous and inter-related activities to prevent, protect

against, mitigate against, respond to, and recover from the potential effects of major emergencies and disasters. The Valencia County Office of Emergency Management works to facilitate an environment of cooperation, coordination, and collaboration with all internal departments, external departments, and any agency assigned with emergency responsibilities. A successful emergency management program requires a whole community approach and effective team work. Our VISION is achieved by striving to continually educate the citizens of Valencia County about preparing for emergencies through education, community outreach, and training. Through creating an increased emphasis on disaster preparedness, the Valencia County Office of Emergency Management looks forward to reinforcing interdepartmental communications and cooperation throughout our County. By creating a community culture of preparedness, prevention, and planning and through fostering partnerships with local, public, and private groups and businesses, it is determined that Valencia County will work as a whole community, with neighbor helping neighbor, when a disaster strikes.

The Valencia County Office of Emergency Management is updating the county’s multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan, and is asking the community for feedback. The plan is a regional project underway since fall 2025 that identifies the natural hazards facing our communities, assesses our greatest risks and outlines actions to reduce future losses over the next five years.
A community survey of about 45 questions is being made available to the public so the county can gather information about whether residents have been directly affected by a natural disaster, how they prefer to receive emergency information and how concerned they are about disasters such as severe heat, flooding, wildfire or bosque fires, winter storms and more.
The survey can be found at the following link: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/KuayMshMfg
Maintaining a current FEMA-approved plan keeps all participating jurisdictions eligible for federal disaster assistance, mitigation grans and recovery funding. Those jurisdictions locally are Valencia County, city of Belen, village of Bosque Farms, village of Los Lunas, town of Peralta, city of Rio Communities, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District and Valencia Soil and Water Conservation District.
