Your input is important to us and the whole ABQ/Bernco Metro Area Mitigation Planning Team

Help Los Ranchos prepare for disasters and emergencies.

The Albuquerque Metropolitan Area is updating our Hazard Mitigation Plan, to help us prepare for disasters caused by natural and human-caused hazards, and identify ways to reduce losses and protect our community from hazard events. We’re seeking input from the public to help us better understand our vulnerabilities, your experiences, and opportunities to reduce the impacts of hazards before they occur.

Please take our short five-question Hazard Mitigation Plan Survey at https://bit.ly/HMP2020PublicSurvey by August 31, 2020.

FOUR thing we must do:

1. Test widely. That means every person in the country with pneumonia, every sick health care worker, every person in nursing homes, all contacts with symptoms (and maybe some without), all patients in clusters that could be #COVID19, and more.

2. Isolate all infected people. In hospitals-safely without any infections of health care workers, patients. In nursing homes, ground zero for this pandemic in U.S. In patient homes - if this can be done safely, or in hotels, dorms, or other facilities that are safe & attractive

3. Contact tracing is core public health action. This is a public health emergency; public health must guide us forward. Contact tracing requires army of skilled, sensitive, supervised staff to reach out to patients and help them identify contacts so these contacts can be warned.

4. Quarantine contacts. Provide support and services so that they, their families, and their communities will be protected. Ensure they don't expose others & are linked to social & medical services they need, immediately tested & isolated if they become ill. #BoxItIn #BoxCovidIn

The only way to save lives & not overwhelm our healthcare system is by slowing the spread of COVID-19.

The only way to slow the spread of COVID-19 is by staying home & minimizing person-to-person contact.

New Mexicans are instructed to stay home unless absolutely essential.

Important information from @NMDWS today to streamline the filing system for unemployment insurance: PLEASE start by filing online at jobs.state.nm.us if you are able. This ensures that those who can't get online can still access their resources via the phone lines.

If you’re calling the Unemployment Insurance Operations Center, you will have a designated day to call based on the last number of your Social Security Number:

0 – 3 : Monday
4 – 6 : Tuesday
7 – 9 : Wednesday
Missed your day: Thursday and Friday

Filing later in the week will not delay payments or affect the date of an individual’s claim – all claims are effective on the Sunday of the week in which they are filed. The Operations Center is available Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Please be kind and patient with @NMDWS staff. They are working around the clock to assist New Mexicans during this trying time.

Remember: the most efficient method to file for unemployment insurance is online at jobs.state.nm.us

Gov. Lujan Grisham orders self-isolation for air travelers to N.M. | Office of the Governor - Michelle Lujan Grisham

Michelle Lujan Grisham
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham

Today I issued an executive order requiring anyone traveling into New Mexico by plane to self-isolate for at least 14 days in order to help combat the spread of COVID-19. Those who fail to voluntarily self-isolate will be subject to forced isolation or quarantine by New Mexico Department of Health

The majority of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Mexico have resulted from interstate and international travel into the state. Some individuals infected with COVID-19 are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms and may be unaware they are traveling into NM carrying the virus.

Despite the best efforts of our state and local governments and the citizens of New Mexico, COVID-19 has continued to spread and ongoing efforts are still necessary to mitigate and contain the spread of the virus.

State to use emergency alert system
for important communications

SANTA FE – Given the current public health crisis and the need to communicate critical information directly to as many New Mexicans as possible, the state of New Mexico will use an emergency alert system, disseminated from the state’s Emergency Operations Center, when conditions warrant.

This system is similar to Amber Alerts which are used to notify the public about missing children. Alerts will be sent through text messages, television, and radio.

The system is intended to disseminate important information widely and as quickly as possible and is not a cause for alarm.

The first alert will be sent at roughly 12:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 25.

Messages will state essential public information from the Department of Health, Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and Governor's Office regarding important public health guidance and instruction, such as the recent instruction to remain at home except for outings essential to health, safety and welfare.

More information about the state of New Mexico's response to COVID-19 is available at newmexico.gov and cv.nmhealth.org.
