Stay hydrated and try to keep cool. It's brutal out there! 🥵

This heatwave is extreme. If you have AC, healthy and work indoors then you’re fine.

For the 10,000 homeless folks in Chicago and St Louis, the 140,000+ households with no AC in Chicago; the older population or those with medical conditions and those with outdoor jobs; this heat is dangerous.

Little to no relief is occurring at night either in metropolitan areas with temps hovering around 80. This gives the body no chance to cooldown and considering this is a 4-8 day heatwave; this can lead to heat illness in those with no access to AC.

Infustructer will be impacted too with roads buckling in the region, most recent report near Springfield on I-72.

Please take this seriously. Be aware that while you may be safe with AC, tens of thousands of others are struggling with limited resources.

Below is a map of heat risk for the rest of today and tomorrow. We decided to upgrade to extreme to account for vulnerable populations in metropolitan areas where overnight lows will stay warm.
