Today crews are conducting annual fire apparatus pump testing at the intersection of Hackberry Street and Green Street to verify that every engine meets NFPA standards and performs reliably for our community.
๐Ÿš’ Why Pump Testing MattersSafety & Readiness: Ensures proper water pressure and volume under heavy loads.
Compliance: Meets annual requirements set by national standards and insurance ratings.
Preventative Care: Catches small mechanical issues before an emergency call comes in.
โš ๏ธ Note for NeighborsTraffic: Watch for apparatus parked near the intersection.
Noise: Expect brief periods of high engine noise while testing.
Water: You may notice temporary water runoff in the area.

Training never stops at the Loudon Fire Department!

This week, A shift spent time getting hands-on with our new nozzles and hose, working on nozzle handling, flow control, and effective fire attack techniques.

Equipment is only as effective as the firefighters operating it. Training with our new equipment helps ensure our crews are prepared to perform safely and effectively when our community needs us most.

Train hard. Stay ready. Serve Loudon. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’

Fire Tools Thursday:
C shift hit the training grounds to practice critical drafting operations. We are lucky in the city that we have so many well-maintained hydrants nearby. However, we also run mutual aid, so we have to stay on our game for alternative water sources when a hydrant isn't available. So this week's fire tool: drafting.
What is drafting?
When a traditional pressurized fire hydrant isn't nearby, our engine pump creates a vacuum to pull water directly from an open, static sourceโ€”like a local pond, stream, lake, or a portable tank brought to the scene, as shown in the pictures.
Why does it matter?
Many areas of East TN depend on these alternate water supply methods. Mastering hard suction line setups, establishing a quick prime, and maintaining steady water flow ensures our team is ready to protect the community safely and efficiently, no matter the location. Constant preparation means faster response times when seconds count. Great job, C shift!
