STATE OF TELLICO VILLAGE OPEN MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
The annual State of Tellico Village meeting was held August 5 at the Yacht Club, featuring updates from TVPOA Executive Leader Claude Thorn and TVRA President Linda Garza, followed by questions from residents.
TVPOA UPDATES:
Troon Advisory Services Review: The 12-month review remains on schedule. Areas examined include accounting, information technology, food and beverage operations, and preventive maintenance. The review identified opportunities to better integrate technology and improve tracking of vehicles, HVAC systems, restaurants, marinas, and other assets. The goal is to improve efficiency and provide better information for long-term repair, replacement, and investment decisions—not simply reduce expenses.
TANASI UPDATE:
The new Tanasi restaurant is scheduled to officially open August 27, with more than 90 employees currently in training and soft openings planned. Residents were encouraged to support the operation and allow the staff time to get established.
WSIAF REFUNDS:
The Water and Sewer Infrastructure Asset Fee refund process is underway, involving more than 7,000 current and former residents. Current residents will receive account credits based on their eligibility, while former residents will receive checks after outstanding balances are resolved. Credits will be applied by neighborhood as calculations are completed. Residents may also choose to donate their refund to Timeless Tellico or allow TVPOA to retain it for future use. Other updates included expanded wellness hours, new EZGO golf carts with complimentary GPS access, and the beginning of the 2027 budget process. Departments are reviewing operations, future needs, and performance goals as part of the Balanced Scorecard process.
TVRA UPDATE:
TVRA President Linda Garza highlighted TVRA’s role in keeping residents informed, encouraging communication, supporting community improvements, and providing opportunities for residents to connect. TVRA now has more than 3,000 members, representing approximately 1,650 households, and relies on more than 100 volunteers.
She cited resident-created programs including New Villagers, Litter Angels, Neighborhood Watch, TellicoLife, StayinTV, and the community library as examples of what residents can accomplish through involvement and volunteerism.
TVRA is currently recruiting volunteers for the 2027 Executive Board and is forming a committee to help plan the upcoming TVPOA candidate forum.
RESIDENTS' QUESTIONS:
Residents raised questions about amenities, infrastructure, traffic, wastewater, and future planning. Claude explained that regulatory requirements will keep water and sewer finances separate from other TVPOA operations; those funds cannot be used for amenities, roads, or other projects. A five-year capital improvement plan is in place, with projects such as refurbishment of the Chota pool being considered.
Sewer tank replacement options remain under review, while a roundabout near Mialaquo is currently projected for 2028–2029. Because Highway 444 is controlled by TDOT, residents concerned about increasing traffic were encouraged to contact state officials directly.
Other topics included the temporary Tanasi pump issue, the proposed Tanasi driving range, future TVPOA leadership, food and beverage benchmarking, and revenue opportunities. Troon’s food and beverage consultants will compare staffing, costs, expenses, and performance with similar organizations.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The meeting closed with a shared message: Tellico Village is strongest when residents stay involved. Leaders encouraged residents to join TVRA, volunteer, attend meetings, ask questions, and continue contributing ideas that help shape the future of our community.
