Project Updates! The Covered Bridge roadway and Gorge Overlook restoration projects are coming along nicely. The bridge now has new concrete and is expected to open back up the first of May. You may still drive to the bridge from CR 939 and cross the pedestrian walkway, just not drive vehicles across the bridge. The overlook restoration project now has several areas of new stone and is moving along faster with the warmer weather. That project is anticipated to be completed by end of May. Did we mention we also got a new bathroom at the Grist Mill? Mohican State Park is ready to rock and roll for the summer! 😁🚧

We hope you find some time today to get outside and appreciate the beauty the Earth has to offer! Earth Day is a very important day to recognize this planet and all its creatures. Consider ways you could lessen your impact on the environment to help conserve and protect our natural spaces. 🌱💧

The tick population has been booming in the past few years, and it does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon. After a hike make sure to throw your clothes in the wash and check for ticks. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you avoid them:

🌳 Know when and where to expect them. Blacklegged ticks are found in the woods; dog ticks in grassy areas and road edges.

🌳 Use repellents according to labels.

🌳 Tuck your pants into your socks and boots and tuck your shirt into your pants.

🌳 Check yourself, family, and pets regularly and remove ticks immediately.

🌳 Use anti tick products on pets.

🌳 Ask your veterinarian about Lyme vaccines for pets where blacklegged ticks are found.

🌳 Create a tick safe zone in your yard.

If you are bitten by a tick, do not panic. Carefully remove the tick, including its mouthparts, from your skin using tweezers. Monitor your health the following days. While the CDC recognizes a 36-48 hour window is needed for disease transmission, there is evidence that transmission can occur sooner.

When hiking at Mohican State Park we encourage you to be cautious of these vectors while enjoying the great outdoors.

Please share! We have a couple additional openings for our summer maintenance crew. Duties include mowing grass, w**d eating, restroom cleaning, and light maintenance, such as painting, trail work, and assistance with various maintenance projects.
