Our Future First Responders met tonight for our monthly meeting and talked about Hazardous Materials. It included review of the Emergency Response Guide, a dam-dike-divert scenario and finished the night off with GAGA Ball with 1C!

Louisa County’s 9-11 ceremony will be held this year in Courthouse Square on the morning of Friday, September 11. The ceremony will start at 8:46 am to commemorate the time the north tower was struck and will end at 9:03 am to commemorate when the south tower was subsequently hit.

The ceremony will begin with a prayer, followed by a presentation of colors by the Honor Guard comprised of members from both Louisa County Fire & EMS and Sheriff’s Office. The ceremony will continue with the National Anthem, Ringing of the Bell, and a moment of silence. The playing of Taps will draw the ceremony to a close.

Public safety vehicles will be positioned in the Courthouse area and will run their lights the duration of the ceremony. Fire & EMS stations across the County will be invited to participate at their locations by also running lights and saluting at 8:46am and 9:03am.

The public is invited to attend and reflect on the impact of September 11 on American history, honor those lost, and recognize the dedication, bravery, and brotherhood of first responders.

Earlier this morning crews from Zion Crossroads were dispatched for a tree blocking the roadway. When they arrived they found an army of citizens taking care of the hazard. This is what community is all about,we appreciate all of the help! 💪

Reminders to Plan Accordingly

**School Bus Road**
VDOT will close a portion of School Bus Road the week of August 17th for pipe replacement work. Through traffic will follow a signed detour via Route 22/208 (Davis Highway) and Route 33 (Jefferson Highway) through Friday, Aug. 21, weather permitting. The School Bus Road Refuse and Recycling Center will remain open and operate on normal business hours during the week, but citizens will only be able to enter School Bus Road on the Rt. 33 side.

**Bells Crossroads Refuse and Recycling Center**
Bells Crossroads Refuse and Recycling Center will be CLOSED on Wednesday, August 19th for installation of a new compactor but will reopen the following day.

**Waltons Store Road (Route 606)**
Beginning this week, Waltons Store Road (Route 606) will close west of Proffits Road from 6pm through 6am for utility work. From 6am through 6pm, there will be a single lane closure. The recommended detour is via Route 718 (Proffits Road), Route 629 (Old Fredericksburg Road) and Route 699 (Three Chopt Road).

**Oversized Loads**
The Louisa County Sheriff's Office will be es**rting two oversized loads this week - Tuesday, August 18 and Wednesday, August 19 at approximately 11:30 AM – 3:30 PM each day. The loads will travel along the following route:
➡️ Rt. 522 (Cross County Rd.)
➡️ Jefferson Hwy.
➡️ Pendleton Rd.
➡️ Mineral Ave.
➡️ E. First St.
➡️ Rt. 618 (Fredericks Hall Rd.)
➡️ Rt. 700 (Johnson Rd.)
➡️ Haley Dr.

**Intersection of Kentucky Springs Road and Johnson Road**
Also, on or around August 26, Dominion Energy will install temporary trailer-mounted traffic signals at the intersection of Kentucky Springs Road and Johnson Road to help improve traffic safety and congestion during the upcoming North Anna Power Station refueling outages. At that intersection, located about one mile west of North Anna, Johnson Road turns into Haley Drive.

F-Animal Rescue🐕
Glenmore Ln

Crews responded for a dog in a culvert pipe. Members of 7B along with Fluvanna County Sheriff's Office Animal Control was able to lure him out without injury. The dog was turned over to his owners, who we're planning to give it a warm bath.

🚨 COMMUNITY TRAVEL ALERT – OVERSIZED LOADS 🚨

The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office would like to make the community aware that two more es**rted oversized loads will travel through Louisa County on:
📅 Tuesday, August 18, 2026
📅 Wednesday, August 19, 2026
⏰ Approximately 11:30 AM – 3:30 PM each day

The loads will travel along the following route:

⚠️ Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes during these times. Drivers traveling in the area should expect possible delays and allow additional time to reach their destination.

Please use caution when approaching the es**rted loads and follow the directions of law enforcement and es**rt personnel.

Strong to severe storms will be possible this afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts and locally heavy rain are the main threats, but large hail and potentially a brief, spin up tornado are possible.
