Today, we remember and honor Past Captain and Life Member Garland Nuckols — a man whose impact on Louisa County Rescue Squad and the citizens of Louisa County will never be forgotten.

Garland was more than a member of this organization; he was one of the individuals who helped shape the foundation of emergency services in our community. His dedication, leadership, and vision extended far beyond the walls of the rescue squad and touched countless lives throughout Louisa County.

Among his many contributions, Garland played a vital role in the implementation of Enhanced 911 in Louisa County, helping ensure that citizens could receive faster and more effective emergency response when they needed it most. He also championed the adoption of the Certified Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) program in Louisa County, recognizing early on the importance of providing structured, life-saving instructions and support from the very first point of contact during an emergency call.

Because of Garland’s efforts, generations of providers have been better equipped to serve, and countless citizens have received improved emergency care long before responders ever arrived on scene.

While Garland’s accomplishments were significant, those who knew him will remember more than just the titles he held or the programs he helped establish. He will be remembered for his dedication to service, his commitment to this squad, and the lasting example he set for those who followed behind him.

His legacy will continue to live on in every call answered, every life touched, and every member who proudly serves this community.

Please keep the Nuckols family, along with Garland’s many friends and extended rescue family, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
