Canceled!! Too dry!!
The fireworks show, postponed from July 4 and rescheduled for Sept. 6, is being canceled due to the extremely dry conditions. The Freedom Fest committee in consultation with fire personnel and the fireworks operators determined it is too risky to shoot off the fireworks this weekend.
Louisburg and much of eastern Kansas and western Missouri will be under a heat advisory through at least Friday evening. Heat indexes are expected around 105 degrees with temperatures hovering around the high 90s with humidity returning to the area starting tomorrow. The end of next week is the first chance for rain in the area.
The Freedom Fest committee has arranged for long-term storage of the fireworks to hold for next year. The Freedom Fest committee thanks all those who have made donations to help offset the cost of the fireworks and otherwise had signed on to have a terrific event in July. We appreciate the community's continued support of Freedom Fest. We'll try again next year!
