Today was the first day of our new Little Gardeners program! Participants learned about fall planting, lasagna style gardening, and cottage gardening. We added kale and parsley to the Franklinton Park Exploration Garden! We have some exciting things planned for the rest of the month, with one day, including pre-registration, so come on out.
🪏🦋
Little Gardeners will be joined by the Museum of Life and Science in an educational lesson of Butterfly Lifecycles- “Fly high into the world of butterflies with this immersive insect experience. Students who are enrolled in the 50 minute program will get a butterfly wing specimen to take home with them to remember all they’ve learned!”

Due to the interactive nature of this program pre-registration is required. Registration opens today at five and is no cost.

Spend 15 Minutes for Science: Participate in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census

Calling all gardeners, farmers, land managers, families, and green industry professionals!

On Friday, August 21 from 9:30-11:30 am, we invite you to take part in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census, a regional community science initiative spanning North Carolina and the Southeast. Join us at Owens Park pollinator garden to spend 15 minutes observing and counting pollinators visiting flowering plants.

You may also participate in the Census on your own anytime on August 21st and 22nd.

How to Participate (It’s as Easy as 1-2-3!):
Select a Flowering Plant 🌱 Pick a single blooming plant on your property, farm, or local park on Aug 21 or 22. It can be a w**d, crop or garden plant!
Observe for 15 Minutes 👀 Set a timer for 15 minutes and tally every time an insect lands on your target bloom using our simple field guide sheet.
