Louisville Farm to Table

Louisville Farm to Table Louisville Farm to Table is part of Louisville Forward Specifically, the report called for a "public interest broker" to connect the suppliers and consumers.

Kentucky ranks 5th in the nation for its number of farms, with to***co historically leading the list of type of farms. However, to***co is waning as a major revenue source for families, and other products are rising in importance to Kentucky's agricultural repertoire. More people each year want access to locally-grown food for a wide variety of reasons, including health, economics, community and t

he environment. Farm to Table seeks to increase the availability of local food in a variety of outlets, which will broaden consumer access. Louisville Farm to Table grew out of the efforts of the Local Food Economy Work Group, a collaborative effort of elected officials from Henry, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble Counties and the cities of Shelbyville and Louisville. Poet and farmer Wendell Berry, small and large businesses, and county cooperative extension agents also contributed to the creation of this project. Louisville Farm to Table also is a result of a Regional Farmers Market Feasibility Study commissioned by the Louisville Metro Economic Development Department, which identified and made recommendations on key elements needed to increase Kentucky farm products’ share in Louisville’s food market system.
