The primary function of the Sheriff and his deputies, as his representatives, is to “keep the peace”. To accomplish this duty the Sheriff’s Office maintains 24 hour patrol, surveillance and dispatch. The Sheriff is also warden of the county jail which serves as detention facility for individuals serving court sentences as well as persons awaiting trial in lieu of bail. The jail staff duties includ

e supervision, feeding and care of inmates plus 24 hour telephone and radio dispatch. The Sheriff is by statute an “Officer of the Court” and in that capacity is responsible for delivery of all court orders, degrees, summons etc. The Sheriff is responsible for courthouse and courtroom security and is general custodian of all county property, not directly under another official.

On the morning of June 11, 2026, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a notification from a Community Watch Camera. The camera had been placed on the property at the request of the owner due to ongoing criminal activity at this location. Upon the arrival of the sheriff’s office, a deputy located an individual in one of the outbuildings. The individual was taken into custody without incident.

As a result of this incident Will E. Corry, 25, of Flora, was arrested for Criminal Trespass to Property and Possession of Methamphetamine. Corry was transported to the Clay County Jail where he is awaiting his first appearance in court. The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

THEFT INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ARREST

On May 14, 2026, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint in reference to a theft and criminal damage at a property on Tower Rd in Clay City Township. It was reported that suspect(s) had taken multiple items from inside the house along with metal from a shed.
As a result of the investigation an arrest warrant was requested and obtained by Clay County State’s Attorney Phillip Givens for Will E. Corry, 25, of Clay City, for the offenses of Theft more than $500 and Criminal Damage more than $500. On June 3, 2026, Corry turned himself into the Clay County Jail where he is currently incarcerated. The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

K-9 ALERT LEADS TO DRUG ARREST

On June 2, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., a Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 200 block of Saddle Club Rd. During the course of the stop, K-9 Chief was deployed to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle which indicated the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle was conducted and a substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine was located in the vehicle, along with drug paraphernalia, other controlled substances and U.S. Currency.
As a result of this stop Brenda Locke, 61, of Cisne, was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Locke was transported to the Clay County Jail, where she is currently incarcerated. The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

TWO SEARCH WARRANTS LEADS TO FIVE ARRESTS

On June 1, 2026, the Clay County Sheriff's Office served two search warrants in the Clay City Area relating to ongoing investigations. During the course of the ex*****on of these warrants, seven people were taken into custody, two were later released, and multiple stolen vehicles were recovered along with counterfeit money.
At approximately 12:03 p.m., the sheriff’s office served a search warrant at a property on Tower Rd in Clay City Township. As a result of the search warrant, Jesse C. Harvel, 30, of Clay City, was arrested for the offenses of Possession of Stolen Property and Possession of Ammunition by a Felon. Also arrested was Jade A. Fatheree, 25, of Clay City, on a Clay County Contempt Warrant (No Bond) on an original charge of Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Both subjects were transported to the Clay County Jail.
At approximately 6:38 p.m., the sheriff’s office served a search warrant at a property on Clark Ave in Clay City. As a result of the search warrant, Cody A. Turner, 37, of Clay City, Savahnnah C. Dulaney, 26, of Clay City, and Bradley W. Beaulieu, 61, of Olney, were arrested and transported to the Clay County Jail. Turner was arrested for the offenses of Possession of Methamphetamine, Forgery and Possession of Unassigned Title(s), Dulaney and Beaulieu were both arrested for the offense of Possession of Methamphetamine.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Flora Police Department, Salem Police Department and Clay County State’s Attorney Phillip Givens. The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The lateral transfer compensation is $500 per year of certified law enforcement experience on the certified pay (example 5 years=$2500 plus certified pay).
If you have filled out the short form application on the Sheriff’s App, you must still fill out the paper application before the deadline. This can be picked up at the sheriff's office or requested by email.
