Why do we love The Frazier History Museum? Because of events like "Mr. Jefferson and the Giant Moose." If the title isn't intriguing enough alone, we don't know what is.

The story revolves around three fascinating individuals: Thomas Jefferson; the French Count and world-renowned naturalist, George-Louis Leclerc Buffon; and a very large, dead moose. All in all, it is a tale of how what started out in the Revolutionary War era as an international dispute over natural history, quickly took on important political overtones. Nifty!

All going down late July. Free with Museum admission. RSVP at the link below!

Everyone knows that Daniel Boone was the fashion forward explorer who popularized that coonskin cap, right? Wrong.

We learned on a recent visit to the Frazier Museum that Ben Franklin first popularized the cap. Franklin as it turns out, not Daniel Boone, discovered the head gear during his exploits in France while there rallying support for the American colonists’ revolt.

We also tend think ole Ben would have looked pretty good modeling on the Parisian catwalks.

Each time we visit the Frazier History Museum, we manager to learn something else new that blows our mind:

President Ulysses Grant often smoked at least 20 ci**rs a day (!). Once after a brilliant war victory, a nation of well wishers sent him more than 10,000 ci**rs. Grant would later die of throat cancer.

Another fascinating historic tidbit we learned the last time we visited the Frazier Museum:

When George Washington was sworn in as the first President of the United States in 1789, he initially used the name, "His High Mightiness, the President of the United States and Protector of their Liberties." Critics charged that it smacked of monarchy and Washington consented that the title be altered to "Mr. President." -

Do you know your historic guns? The Frazier Museum does!

The C**t Peacemaker, the weapon known as "the gun that won the West” was a .45-caliber with six revolving cylinders manufactured by C**t’s Fire Arms Manufacturing Company in Hartford, Connecticut in 1873. At the time it sold for a mere $17.00.
