Louisville Metro Human Relations Commission

Louisville Metro Human Relations Commission Empowering equity and justice in Louisville as the "Civil Rights Arm" of the Metro Government. Welcome!

The Louisville Metro Human Relations Commission seeks to bridge the many ethnic, racial, and religious groups in Louisville Metro through a combination of civil law enforcement and education & outreach. We ensure that groups in Louisville participate in civic activities and have a voice in the community by bringing awareness of our diverse populations, and a fundamental need to blend these diverse

community characteristics, into a more understanding, supportive, tolerant, all-inclusive society. We also monitor contract compliance for entities doing business with Louisville Metro Government. And, we have legally-chartered responsibilities to enforce anti-discrimination laws in Louisville Metro/Jefferson County, Kentucky.

The Louisville Metro Human Relations Commission was honored to attend the Kentucky Historical Marker Dedication recognizing Mammoth Life Insurance Co. and Walnut Street and their lasting impact on Louisville’s Black history and economic development.

This event served as an important reminder of the businesses, leaders, and community spaces that helped shape opportunity, resilience, and progress for generations of Black Louisvillians. We are grateful to join community leaders, advocates, and historians in celebrating and preserving this history.

Honoring the past helps us continue the work toward a more equitable future.
