Celebrating Rick 🎉

Rick is in his fifth year at Walden School, where he works in the cafeteria and is a valued part of the team. Our Employment Services team at Mattingly Edge supports Rick to do meaningful work in a place where he’s encouraged, respected, and thriving. Here he is being celebrated on his 60th birthday surrounded by the coworkers and community that make this journey so special. Relationships like these matter. Creating opportunities for people with disabilities isn’t just about employment – it’s about fostering inclusion, building confidence, and strengthening community in ways that benefit us all.

Last year, Kimber stepped into a new role as a receptionist at Kids Center East, where her warm and engaging presence helps young clients feel comfortable and welcomed each day. With support from our Edge Employment team, she not only found a position well suited to her strengths, but also established a steady routine that allowed her to confidently grow into her responsibilities.

Last week, Kimber was honored as one of three guest speakers at the Kids Center’s annual Champions Breakfast fundraiser. Here she is with our Executive Director, Ilese Anderson, and Director of Employment Services, Merry-Reid Sheffer.

This is what’s possible when people are given the right support. Inclusive, welcoming workplaces don’t just change lives—they help people thrive. 🌟

Jean has been a valued part of the team at Unified Sign and Design for over a year, and her growth is a reminder of what’s possible when workplaces invest in their staff.

With the support of her coworkers, Jean has built new skills that not only help her succeed but also save time and effort for the entire team.

WHY THIS MATTERS:
People with disabilities have a lot to offer and deserve competitive, integrated work opportunities. By taking a flexible approach and shaping roles around individual strengths, employers can create environments where employees with disabilities thrive and businesses operate more effectively.

Did you know?
Only 12% of adults with disabilities in Kentucky have a paid job in the community, even though many want to work.

The issue isn’t ability. It’s opportunity.

Many assume that needing support means someone can’t live a full life.

BUT THAT’S A MYTH.

The truth: the right support expands opportunities.

With individualized, flexible support, people can:
• work meaningful jobs
• live where they choose
• build relationships
• contribute to their communities

Support should open doors, not close them. Let’s challenge myths and focus on what’s possible.
