It's Fire Prevention Week!
October 6-12th, 2024

Follow these tips to keep you and your family safe from fire!

• Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area (like a hallway), and on each level (including the basement) of the home.
• Install smoke alarms with non-removeable 10-year lithium batteries or hard-wired, interconnected smoke alarms. Install smoke alarms on the ceiling or high on the wall.
• Test smoke alarms at least once a month by pushing the test button.
• Make sure everyone in the household knows the sound of your smoke alarm(s).
• Make sure smoke alarms meet the needs of all family members, including those with sensory or physical disabilities.
• Make sure to have 2 ways out of your home. Make a home escape plan and practice it at least twice a year, so everyone knows what to do when the smoke alarm sounds. Pick a meeting place outside where everyone should meet. And remember to call 911!
• If your smoke alarm begins “chirping,” it means a battery is low. Replace the entire smoke alarm. Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old or stop responding when tested.
