The CGI Charitable Giving Fund was created in 2015 by a close group of friends in Louisville, Kentucky. The Fund’s primary goal is to raise money for local charities and encourage charitable giving throughout the Kentuckiana area. The Fund, hosts two events every year during the second week of August: a philanthropy night and a golf scramble. The night before the annual scramble, the Fund hosts a

philanthropy night at The Raven in St. Matthews to raise money for the Ryann Tewell Scholarship Fund through Sacred Heart Academy, the Steven Vanover Memorial Research and Scholarship Fund through the University of Louisville J.B. Speed School of Engineering, and Cross Cultural Solutions in honor of Graham Keeley. The next morning and afternoon, the Fund hosts a charity golf scramble at Nevel Meade Golf Course. In 2015, over 100 people participated in the scramble and several others helped volunteer to make the event a huge success. The Fund raised $8,094 in its inaugural year for both Ryann and Steven’s scholarships, as well as Pete Notcha’s fight against cancer.

Loss is a sobering phenomenon that makes us reevaluate what we hold dear, and at the CGI, we seek to continue to the legacies and passion left from our late friends and family.

Please join us on Friday, August 13th for a night of fun, philanthropy, and good company at The Raven Irish Pub from 7pm-11pm. We will raise money for the Ryann Tewell Scholarship Fund through Sacred Heart Academy - Official Page, Steven Vanover Foundation, Cross-Cultural Solutions in honor of Graham Keeley and others.

The Raven is generously donating a percentage of all purchases and there will also be a raffle-style auction at the event. All funds will be split equally among the three charitable causes unless specifically directed to one of the causes.

If you can't make it to the event tonight but would still like to make a charitable contribution, please visit our donation page through the Community Foundation of Louisville at https://bit.ly/3jRQ7Dk

The CGI gives back to three charities, each with their own unique story of the special people behind them. Here is Ryann's story:

For now the sixth year in a row, the CGI is proud to honor the life and legacy of Ryann Tewell. Ryann was a member of St. Patrick Church of Louisville where she attended grade school, was a 2008 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy - Official Page, and attended William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA on an athletic scholarship in gymnastics. She then transferred to, and was a proud alumnus of, Bellarmine University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2012 with a Bachelor’s in Economics and Business Administration.

Ryann had a tremendous work ethic and was very goal oriented. She was a financial analyst at Humana and previously worked in finance at GE Appliances, where she had many valued friendships. She also was a seven-time Kentucky State Gymnastics Champion, was very health conscious, and was an avid runner. Ryan had the unique ability to bring joy and laughter to a room, truly loved life and worked daily to better both herself and the people around her.

All funds for Ryann will be donated to The Ryann Tewell Memorial Scholarship through Sacred Heart Academy. This scholarship is a merit and character-based, partial scholarship to a SHA student or students who are not only academically motivated, but also possesses several of the following traits which are reflective of Ryann Tewell: Intelligent and perceptive, full of spirit, happiness, kindness and warmth, driven and hard-working, loyal to friends, welcoming and always positive. This scholarship is renewable, yet the recipient must reapply yearly and meet the criteria.

The CGI gives back to three charities, each with their own unique story of the special people behind them. Here is Steven's story:

For the fifth year in a row, we are excited to donate proceeds to the Steven Vanover Foundation. Steven Daniel Vanover made the most of his short time on earth by living his life to the fullest despite battling cancer. He always put family, friends, faith and education above all else. He will be remembered for many things, but especially his courage, faith and positivity.

Steven was born and raised in Louisville, and was a 2008 graduate of Saint Xavier High Schoolwhere he played football and volleyball. He went on to receive a Masters of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from the JB Speed School of Engineering in 2013. Steven was a die-hard University of Louisville fan who regularly attended football and basketball games. He was also an alumnus of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity where he served on the executive council for three years and was Vice President of the Alumni Association for one year.

In December 2013, Steven was diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare form of soft tissue cancer, and passed away just 15 months later on March 12, 2015 at the age of 24. His battle with cancer was fought with courage and strength, and he never let his diagnosis get the best of him. Despite battling his illness, he lived his last 15 months of life to the fullest by golfing, playing music, fishing, spending time with friends and family, and proposing to the love of his life, Lauren. He befriended his nurses and hospital staff, and even held a concert with his band on the rooftop patio of the hospital.

Steven had an innate ability to provide joy to all of those around him, especially through his humor. He was incredibly selfless even in the darkest of times, and inspired others to be strong, courageous and hopeful. Though he is no longer with us, Steven’s legacy is carried on through several local scholarships, as well as the foundation’s contribution to fund the science that leads to cures for rare cancers.

The CGI gives back to three charities, each with their own unique story of the special people behind them. Here is Graham's story:

For the fourth year in a row, we are excited to honor Graham Keeley and his family in our fundraising efforts. Graham passed away in September of 2015 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Growing up in Louisville, Graham attended Kentucky Country Day School and Saint Xavier High School before graduating with a degree in business from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2011, where he was also a member of Pi Kappa Phi- CU Boulder.

Graham was a friend to all and enemy to none. He truly did “light up the room." Graham had the ability to put a smile on everyone’s face, captivated crowds with his charm and humor, and possessed a true love for everyone he came in contact with. We will always remember Graham for his great qualities and certainly hope to make him proud with this year’s event.

Our donations will once again go to Cross-Cultural Solutions, a non-profit that Graham cherished and one that gave him the opportunity to travel to Africa.
