We hope you’ll join us for an important roundtable on Wednesday, November 5th at Metro United Way, hosted by the Louisville Metro Office of Financial Empowerment, Protect Borrowers, with support from Metro United Way.
Student loan debt is affecting lives across Louisville and Kentucky. It’s not just about money—it’s about housing, health, jobs, family, and the future. Borrowers are facing rising stress, broken systems, and fewer protections. Many are falling behind, and the impact is spreading across entire communities.
This roundtable is a chance to come together, share what’s happening, and talk about what we can do to support borrowers and push for change.
We’ll cover:
• How student debt is showing up in Louisville and across Kentucky
• What’s changing at the federal level—and how it’s hurting borrowers
• What repayment and forgiveness options exist (and why many people don’t know about them)
• How local organizations can help with education, outreach, and support
• Ways we can work together to respond to this growing crisis
For borrowers, community members, and frontline staff doing case management or direct support. We’ll break down what’s happening, what help is available, and how to take action. (If you can’t stay the whole time, that’s okay—we’d love to have you even for an hour.)
Plus: Louisville FEC (Financial Empowerment Center) counselors will be on-site to talk with attendees about student loan repayment support. They’ll be happy to answer questions and schedule follow-up appointments with anyone interested.
