On a sunny day, the temperature inside a car can rise 20 degrees in just 10 minutes. Even if it feels mild outside, the interior can become dangerously hot very quickly. On a 90° day, it takes only 30 minutes for the inside of your car to reach 124 degrees.

Heatstroke can happen fast, and it can be deadly.

Let’s work together to keep our kids and pets safe this summer.

You may be tired of seeing posts like this from us. The reality is, we're just as frustrated as you to have to make them.

Day or night. Busy streets or empty roads. It's never okay to speed 72mph in a 40 mph zone.

Speeding dramatically reduces a driver's ability to react to changing conditions and increases the severity of crashes when they occur.

Our officers continue to see drivers making dangerous choices behind the wheel, and we'll continue talking about it, making traffic stops, and writing tickets because traffic safety is a priority in the City of Louisville.

Slow down. Follow the speed limit. Help us make Louisville's streets safer for everyone.

The Blue Meets the Buffs

Officer Herrera recently had the opportunity to meet three new members of the University of Colorado football program who now call Louisville home.

As student-athletes transition to a new team, campus, and community, we're proud to welcome them to Louisville. Building connections between our officers and community members, whether longtime residents or newcomers, is an important part of what makes Louisville such a special place.

We wish these Buffaloes the best as they begin their journey at CU and look forward to cheering them on this season. Welcome to Louisville, and welcome to Buff Nation!

The Louisville Police Department is proud to recognize Deputy Chief Jeff Fisher for successfully completing the prestigious FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Leadership Program and being awarded the Colorado Chiefs of Police Law Enforcement Executive certification.

The FBI-LEEDA (Law Enforcement Executive Development Association) Trilogy consists of three comprehensive leadership courses: Supervisor Leadership Institute, Command Leadership Institute, and Executive Leadership Institute. These nationally recognized programs are designed to develop and strengthen leadership skills at every level of law enforcement, focusing on effective communication, organizational leadership, problem-solving, team building, and preparing leaders to meet the evolving challenges facing public safety agencies. Completing the Trilogy represents a significant commitment to professional growth and leadership excellence.

In addition to completing the Trilogy, Deputy Chief Fisher was awarded the Law Enforcement Executive Certification through the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police. This certification recognizes law enforcement leaders who have demonstrated a commitment to advanced professional development, executive-level training, ethical leadership, and lifelong learning. The program helps ensure that law enforcement executives possess the knowledge, skills, and leadership abilities necessary to effectively guide their organizations, support their employees, and serve their communities.

These achievements reflect Deputy Chief Fisher's dedication to continuous improvement and his commitment to providing the highest level of service to the Louisville community. By investing in professional development, law enforcement leaders are better equipped to address complex public safety challenges, build strong organizational cultures, and foster trust within the communities they serve.

Happy World Bicycle Day!

Whether you ride for fun, fitness, commuting, or adventure, bicycles are a great way to stay active and connected with our community. As more people take to the trails and roadways, we also encourage cyclists to take a few extra steps to protect their bikes from theft.

One of the best ways to safeguard your bicycle is by registering it through the Bike Index. Bike Index is a free bicycle registration service that helps law enforcement and the community identify and recover stolen bikes.

Benefits of registering your bike include:
🔹 Increased chance of recovering your bike if it’s stolen
🔹 Easy access to your bike’s serial number and information
🔹 Ability to share ownership details and photos
🔹 A nationwide database used by police departments and bike shops
🔹 Helps deter theft by making bikes harder to sell illegally

When registering your bike, be sure to:
✔️ Record the serial number
✔️ Take clear photos of the bike
✔️ Save details about unique accessories or modifications

You can register your bike for free through Bike Index at bikeindex.org.

Remember to always lock your bike with a quality U-lock, secure it to a fixed object, and avoid leaving it unattended for long periods of time.

Enjoy the ride, stay safe, and Happy World Bicycle Day from the Louisville Police Department!

Vehicle Impounded for No Registration & No Proof of Insurance

Recently, officers impounded a vehicle that was being operated without valid registration and without proof of insurance. We understand the community’s frustration when it comes to vehicles being driven illegally on our roads. Registration and insurance requirements are in place to help keep everyone safe and accountable.

In Colorado, vehicles driven on public roads must have:
✔️ Current registration
✔️ Valid license plates or temporary tags
✔️ Proof of insurance

Colorado law requires drivers to provide proof of insurance when requested by law enforcement. Under Colorado Revised Statute 42-4-1409, drivers must carry evidence of a complying insurance policy while operating a motor vehicle.

How do you register a vehicle in Colorado?
Vehicle registration is handled through your county motor vehicle office.
You will need:
• Proof of ownership/title
• Valid identification
• Proof of insurance
• Emissions testing (if required)
• Payment for taxes and registration fees

Residents can visit the Colorado DMV website or their county clerk’s office for details on registration requirements and renewals.

What about expired temporary tags?

Temporary license plates are only valid through the expiration date listed on the tag. Once expired, the vehicle is no longer legally registered to operate on public roadways. Driving with expired temporary tags can result in citations and, in some cases, the vehicle being towed or impounded.

We appreciate community members who help keep our roads safe and legal for everyone. If you have questions about registration or insurance requirements, contact your local motor vehicle office for assistance.

A big thank you goes out to everyone who came out to Touch-a-Truck on Saturday and stopped by to visit with us!

It was a fun day filled with smiles, great conversations, and plenty of opportunities for kids (of all ages) to explore the vehicles that help serve our community every day.

We enjoyed meeting so many community members, answering questions, and sharing what we do at the Louisville Police Department. Events like these are a great reminder of the strong connections that make our community special.

Thirty years of service. Three years leading Louisville.

In April, Chief Gutierrez celebrated 30 years in law enforcement, and tomorrow (Sat. May 30th) he will mark his third anniversary as Chief of the Louisville Police Department. Throughout his career, Chief Gutierrez has remained committed to connecting with both the community and our officers in authentic and meaningful ways.

Recently, while riding along with one of our day shift patrol officers, Chief Gutierrez responded to a call from a couple whose cell phone had fallen into a storm grate. After a little problem solving, and a willingness to get his hands dirty, the phone was safely recovered.

Moments like these may seem small, but they reflect what community policing is all about: being present, approachable, and willing to help however we can.

Congratulations to Chief Gutierrez on 30 years of service, and thank you for your continued leadership and dedication to the Louisville community.
