Had an amazing time taking these students to represent Southern at the Annual GFS Food Show! Shirley’s Way donates $2000 biweekly to our school to support our after-school sports teams/clubs, as well as families in need by way of drop shipping the food through Gordon Food Service. We adventured out with our students and coaches to taste test hundreds of food items to select for future orders. Everyone left with full bellies and we’re so grateful to have this kind of support. Thank you, Shirley’s Way, and thank you, Mr. Cleo at GFS for the special invitation! 💜

Today was a hot one! But a great back to school event at Newburg Apostolic Church. Thanks to everyone who came out to volunteer. It was nice seeing so many smiling faces on the families who attended. 💜

Today we hosted our annual FRYSC Mini Conference at Southern High School, a first for me! This is a conference that is put on in a “for us, by us” fashion. Our FRYSC planning committee worked diligently and each member brought a special uniqueness to all that went into this conference. We had nearly 300 people in attendance, complete with 70 vendors, presenters, over 100 JCPS FRYSC’s, a few FRYSC’s from many other counties, and a special keynote by Mike Mulrooney at Shirley’s Way! Mike also brought to our conference a special food showcase by GFS for us to sample products that Shirley’s Way provides to our students throughout the school year. Annndd..he was so kind to provide us with lunch from Texas Roadhouse!! A shoutout as well to our Southern staff who help made this day a win: Mrs. Sampson, Ms. Pahler, Mrs. Martin, and our top-notch custodial staff. We are deeply grateful for all the learning, laughs, and collaborations today with such great people. Thanks to everyone who attended or played a role. It couldn’t have been a better experience 💜

Our Southern Wrestling Team needs your support!! Next Saturday, January 17th, we will be hosting our annual T3 Trojans Team Tournament for KHSAA Wrestling Teams. A lot of work and funding go into these events with proceeds going back to our team. We are asking for any donations of food/drinks/plates etc. to go towards our coaches and staff hospitality room. This is an all day tournament. We will graciously take store bought foods, trayed foods, or homemade items!! Or even a Kroger gift card if you don’t like to shop. We will gladly hang a banner for your organization, and/or supply a tax donation form for all items. PLEASE help us for the holidays! If you or your organization is looking for a great opportunity to support the community, then please help feed our students and families for the winter break! We would love to have any contributions towards creating 200 food baskets to give to our Southern students in need. Items requested: $25 Kroger gift cards to purchase a ham/turkey/cold products such as milk & eggs, packs of potatoes, cans of green beans/corn, boxes of stuffing & cake mix/brownies/icing, macaroni & cheese, gravy packets, canned fruit, bags of rice, or any other non-expired food items. Southern High School’s National Honors Society and Sources of Strength student groups took a trip to Blake Elementary to participate in their African American Read-in event in honor of Black History Month. Our students enjoyed reading to the younger students, helped out in the cafeteria, and did a fantastic job of being student role models! We loved this school collaboration and look forward to doing it again in the future! Thank you, Jill Banta, for the invite!!❤️💚💛🖤
