Coleridge-Taylor Montessori Elementary

Coleridge-Taylor Montessori Elementary Coleridge-Taylor Montessori Magnet is the ONLY Public Montessori elementary school in Jefferson County.

Coleridge-Taylor Montessori is one of only two elementary schools in the District that offers the Montessori method of teaching through its Montessori Magnet Program. The Montessori method of education is based on self-directed and noncompetitive activities that promote positive self-image and confidence. This hands-on approach to education allows students to grasp a wide variety of academic and s

ocial skills to make learning easier. The curriculum is structured and ordered from concrete facts to abstract ideas, which offers the child the opportunity for successful learning and the joy of self-discovery. The curriculum also provides students with a firm foundation in language arts, mathematical concepts, science, geography, and practical living. Students learn in multi-age classrooms where children at various stages of development learn from and with one another. Preprimary classrooms serve students from preschool to six years of age. Primary classrooms are for six- to nine-year-olds; and Intermediate classes work with student’s nine to twelve years of age. This approach was designed to fit the child instead of making the child fit the program. Students also can take advantage of many cultural arts opportunities like band, orchestra, and violin lessons. Coleridge-Taylor offers the Advance Program, Early Montessori Childhood Jump Start programs for three- and four-year-olds, Montessori Tuition-based programs for three- and four-year-olds, Extended School Services, a Family Resource Center, and before- and after-school child care. Parents are encouraged to get involved in school and to participate in School Based Decision Making.

We celebrated dedication and excellence at our CTMMYS staff award ceremony to recognize our staff's hard work and growth this year and to honor three retiring staff members: Ms. Michelle Burriell (café manager), Mrs. Sarah Reed (Academic Instructional Coach), and Miss Nancy Renfrow (matriarch of our Montessori program), all three who have made lasting impacts on our students and staff. A sensorial garden and outdoor classroom will be named after Mrs. Reed and Miss Nancy, serving as lasting testaments to their legacy. All three will be greatly missed! Please share a comment, memory, congratulations and well wishes with them!

🌟 CTM Week in Review: A Huge Week of Growth & Fun!
What a whirlwind of achievement and community at CTM this week! Our students have been busy showing off their hard work and celebrating the end of a fantastic season.

The Big Highlights:

Testing Complete! The entire school wrapped up KSA, MAP Growth, and MAP Fluency testing. We are so proud of the incredible growth we’re seeing in our MAP scores—hard work pays off! 📈

Spring Concert: Yesterday, the whole school took the stage at Central High School. Our students performed beautifully! A huge thank you to Mr. Cain for his leadership and organization. 🎶

Field Day: We capped off the week today with a school-wide Field Day! From sunshine to outdoor games, it was the perfect way to celebrate together. ☀️🏃‍♂️ More Field Day pictures will be shared soon.

Around the Classrooms:

Kindergarten: Our youngest learners celebrated big milestones this week, wrapping up their swimming lessons and successfully releasing their moths! 🦋🏊‍♂️

Lower Elementary (1st–3rd Grade): Students have been busy with UFLI lessons and exploring new Montessori materials. 🧩 They also took a global perspective by creating water awareness posters for different countries in Africa. 🌍

Upper Elementary (4th–5th Grade): It was a week of civic engagement and arts! Students researched Louisville’s mayoral candidates to learn about voting rights (inspired by their reading of The Hope Chest) and enjoyed a live "Justice Fairy Tales" performance by the Central High School theater class. 🗳️🎭

Thank you to our amazing staff, students, and families for making this week a success!

🏫 CTM Week in Review: Testing, Triumphs, & Toes! 🐾
It has been a busy and productive week at CTM! From showing off what we know in assessments to exploring new concepts in the classroom, our students have been hard at work.

📝 Testing Updates
Our students showed great focus this week:

Grades 3-5 tackled KSA testing.

Grades K-2 focused on MAP Growth and MAP Fluency.

Next Week: We will be wrapping up the remaining KSA sections and finishing MAP make-up tests.

🌟 Classroom Highlights
MSD: Our students got "hands-on" (or rather, "feet-on!") with math, learning all about measurement by comparing their foot sizes. 👣

Lower Elementary: Students continue to master their Montessori works, specifically practicing money counting, phonological awareness, and sharpening their decoding and encoding skills.

4th Grade: A huge shout-out for "stepping up the game" and expertly following Monarch 3 expectations in the hallways! Keep it up! 🦋

5th Grade: It was a big week for our seniors! They delivered impressive end-of-unit presentations on how athletes use their success to lead social change. 🏅

🕺 Friday Fun
We ended the week on a high note! 5th Grade celebrated with a Silent Disco today, and because the weather was so beautiful, many classes took their Lunch Bunch outside to soak up the sun. ☀️

❤️ Happy Mother’s Day
Finally, we want to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all of our incredible CTM moms and mother figures this weekend. We hope you have a wonderful day being celebrated!
