KPR North Central Chapter Meeting Information

The KPR North Central Chapter holds its regular monthly meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 11:30 am, with a great buffet lunch. We meet in the back room of the JYoki Buffet - 1700 Alliant Ave Louisville, KY 40299. Our programs are either speakers from the community on retirement issues, legislators, government representatives, entertainers

, or other speakers of general interest to our retired members. We also hear about upcoming legislation, planning for future events, etc. We have a 50/50 cash drawing and numerous door prizes as well. It will be fun! Kentucky Public Retirees was formed in 1983 as a non-profit organization of retired Kentucky employees from KERS, CERS, and SPRS, whose aim is to protect our retirement benefits. The officers and board members are all retired government employees who are members of one or more of these retirement systems. They volunteer their time to serve the best interests of this organization and public retirees across Kentucky. KPR currently has 15 Chapters throughout the state which meet monthly. KPR has hired a lobbyist to appear on our behalf before the General Assembly and alert us of meetings or votes of importance to our benefits for comment or action on our part.

Hi All - Attached are the updated bill trackers, legislative update and candidate filings. There were far fewer bills introduced this week as compared to last, but there was much more committee activity this week.

Yesterday, Rep. Cantrell withdrew from the 38th as she was drawn out of that district last week with the passing of the new House districts. She is the first and only candidate to withdraw so far due to the new maps. As of this typing, the Governor has not signed or vetoed the redistricting bills passed last Saturday.

The House released their budget last week in the form of HB 1, HB 241 and HB 244 and throughout this week and last night the Governor made public his budget priorities. A great analysis of the Governor's budget can be found at
https://kypolicy.org/governors-budget-includes-substantial-reinvestment-in-education-and-other-areas/

On Tuesday, the session schedule was changed to reflect that the House and Senate would not convene today, Friday, January 14. The 10th legislative day will be Tuesday following the federal holiday on Monday.

On Wednesday, the House and Senate passed a $200M relief package to help those impacted by the December 10 storm in Western Kentucky - $45M will be immediately available. After HB 5 passed the House, the Senate made a motion to substitute SB 5 - their companion relief bill - for HB 5 and dispensed with the 2nd and 3rd readings to allow for final passage of HB 5. It was then sent to the Governor to sign. Info Here: https://www.kentucky.com/news/politics-government/article257263422.html?ac_cid=DM592318&ac_bid=-1376402292

Additionally, HJR 29 was passed on Thursday. This resolution extends certain executive orders related to the storms until April 15, 2022.

Also, note passage of SB 25 which allows each school an additional 10 remote learning days and through a last minute committee sub, also extends several COVID related orders that were due to expire.

Further details on all of the above activity and more are in the attached legislative update and the link to the bill can be found on the attached tracker.

Please reach out with any questions and enjoy your weekend!
