Over the weekend, teens from Neighborhood House partnered with The LEE Initiative Skill Kitchen, POCO Pop Ups, and Heaven Hill Distillery to host a community seafood boil at the California Community Center. Since January, young adults have been learning from The LEE Initiative, honing practical cooking skills and working together in the kitchen.

The seafood boil was a celebration of what the teens have learned, as well as an opportunity to give back to the community. They prepared a full seafood boil with crawfish, shrimp, and kielbasa, plus sides and desserts! Teens also spoke to WLKY News about the event.

Last week with The LEE Initiative, teens in the Pathways program re-created a seemingly simple box lunch with chefs from POCO 502. They made sandwiches, spreads, cole slaw, cookies, and even the pickles! Since January, these young adults have been learning how to collaborate, trying new foods, and improving their cooking skills. It’s Kentucky Gives Day.

Today we’re working to raise $5,000 for 80 kids at Neighborhood House who will attend Dreamers’ Academy this summer.

This program provides meals, enrichment, and field trips, but rising food and transportation costs are making it harder to cover what kids need.

Here’s how your gift helps:
• $100 = snacks for a day
• $250 = field trip lunches
• $500 = water park admission
• $1,000 = transportation to Holiday World

Tomorrow is Kentucky Gives Day.

At Neighborhood House, we’re preparing for 80 kids to begin Dreamers’ Academy. This summer camp for kids from kindergarten through high school features eight weeks of summer learning, meals, field trips, and joy in Louisville’s west end.

This Kentucky Gives Day, we are launching a $5,000 effort to help cover rising costs for food and transportation this summer.

💡VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT💡

Meet Morgan, a volunteer in our Emergency Food Pantry. Morgan first joined the NH family in 2014 & he comes in nearly every Wednesday to greet guests as they shop for their groceries.

He says it was “a revelation” learning about Neighborhood House. “Great people, staff, and members, providing much needed services to a wide range of people. Every day I’m there I learn something new. I’m grateful to be a part of the Neighborhood House family.“

Over the last four months, Pathways members have teamed up with The LEE Initiative and POCO for a series of monthly cooking lessons & outings.

This month, members made a quick trip down the road to Sacred Earth, a youth-led community garden in Louisville’s west end. During their visit, they learned about the basics of gardening fruits & vegetables & the power of coming together to support & uplift those in your community.

To round out their trip, each member got to plant their own vegetable to take home & nurture🥒🍅🌿
