Grow More Mow Less

Grow More Mow Less The Grow More Mow Less program seeks to reduce lawn-related air pollution in Louisville Metro by encouraging landowners to switch to low-mow landscaping.

Grow More Mow Less is sponsored by the Louisville Metro APCD. If your grass is using you more than you use it, it might be time for a change! By converting some or all of your turfgrass into low-mow alternatives, you can save time, money, and hassle--and help keep our air clean all at the same time.

🌿 Already growing native plants? The Less Lawn More Life Challenge is for you too.

The Less Lawn More Life Challenge isn’t just about getting started. It’s about going deeper: learning more about invasive species, water conservation, habitat structure, ecological gardening, and how our individual spaces connect into something bigger.

Whether you manage a thriving native garden, volunteer in restoration, lead a Wild Ones chapter, or simply want to keep learning alongside thousands of others working toward healthier ecosystems, there’s still time to join.

New participants always start at Week 1 and can move through the challenge at their own pace.

Nature starts at home, but it grows through community.

Happy Friday! For the last day of Air Quality Awareness Week, we thought we would talk about our programs that you can take part in!

The Grow More Mow Less program encourages people to plant more native plants and ground cover in their lawns to decrease the amount of mowing that occurs.

If you still have to mow your lawn, the Lawn Care for Cleaner Air program offers rebates on electric lawn care equipment! You can also turn in old equipment to one of our recycling center to get a higher rebate!

The Air Quality Action Partners Program encourages local businesses to make voluntary commitments to reduce emissions! Some commitments include signing up for air quality alerts to send to employees, purchasing low-emission equipment or installing idle free signage.

Speaking of idle free, the KAIRE (Kentuckiana Air Education) is an outreach and education program of the Air Pollution Control District. They offer tips on how to lower personal emissions, including not idling you car!

Continuing on the topic of air, plants, and animals, we wanted to share something that our office does to promote sustainable practices!

Here at the Air Pollution Control District, we work with Sustain Louisville and Louisville Compost Co-op to compost waste! The Co-op picks up our waste bucket regularly and provides us with a clean one! They then turn the compost into a nutrient-rich soil that plants love!
