The addition of our cap and shell mills in the early 2000s served as another great ergonomic improvement for the Grind department. Previously, all parts had to be milled in the main grind room where the work of grinding a flat surface is a bit more demanding.

Our mills need to be loaded, unloaded, and have the parts checked for quality. This drastically reduced the physical workload of team members.

Quality is monitored throughout every stage of our Paint room process. During hanging, parts are inspected for any issues that may have occurred during shipment or at the foundry before they move forward.

After curing in the oven, each batch undergoes a cure test to confirm the powder coat is properly bonded and durable. Parts that need touch-ups are rewashed and repainted to meet Zoeller’s standards.

Once parts have been hung, acid washed, rinsed, and fully dried, they move on to powder coating. This tough, durable finish helps protect our components from chipping and scratching as they continue through the manufacturing process.

A light texture is intentionally built into the coating so operators can safely grip and maneuver parts during machining, even when they’re wet. Thoughtful details like this keep our process efficient and our team safe.

After parts are carefully hung on custom Zoeller-made fixtures, they move into a critical cleaning stage. Each piece goes through an acid wash and rinse to remove cast iron dust from the raw castings and create the ideal surface for paint adhesion.

Next comes drying. External blower units shed excess water before parts enter a high-heat dryer, where a 24” fan and temperatures above 212°F remove all remaining moisture. This step ensures a smooth, long-lasting finish that performs in real-world conditions.

Before any Zoeller product gets its signature finish, it starts with precision and care in our paint line.

First up is hanging each part using custom-built hangers made right here by our Zoeller Tool Room team.

These hangers are incredibly durable, cycling through the line about 30 times before being cleaned in our oven to strip accumulated paint and reused again.

We only build new hangers when a new product design requires it, which keeps our process efficient, sustainable, and consistent.

Zoeller Operations made the switch to our trademarked ‘Zoeller Green’ in 1992.

Before that, we had been using an olive-green color. Today, the epoxy paint on our pumps is ‘Zoeller Green’ when applied to the parts, but when baked in the oven the shade of green that the curing process produces is actually a few shades darker.

The final product was so well-liked, however, that we kept it as is.
