Today, we celebrated something truly special with the ribbon cutting of a brand-new Habitat home. This house represents so much more than walls and a roofโ€”it represents hope, hard work, partnership, and a brighter future.

Thank you to our volunteers, donors, sponsors, community partners, and everyone who helped make this day possible. Your generosity continues to change lives, one home at a time.

Congratulations to the newest Habitat homeowners! We are honored to be part of your journey and can't wait to see the memories you'll create in your new home. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ”‘

On June 6 at the St. Matthews Episcopal Church, who by the way, is a huge supporter of Habitat for Humanity, a veterans STAND DOWN event was held. Thanks to the support of America 250 and Louisville Metro. I have to say, it was fantastic!!!! The event was organized by a number of organizations who serve our KY veterans every day. St. Matthews Episcopal Church was so wonderful to host the veterans and all of the organizations who were there that day to help. Thanks to you all for the work you did to put this together and make it a success. The US Dept. of VA's, Mission BBQ, which provided the fabulous lunch, Scoops Ice Cream truck, who also provided hot dogs, chips and drinks, American Turner's who provided an incredible acrobat show, our musical entertainment for the afternoon, guest speakers and our guest of honor, a WWII veteran and his family. TARC was great in working with the group to transport our homeless veterans to the event and home safely. It was a great event and to everyone who attended, THANK-YOU!!!!!!! Hope to see you next year!!!

Last night I had the extreme pleasure of attending the Metropolitan Housing Coalition's Annual Meeting and Dinner at the Mellwood Arts Center in Louisville. I was honored to be a guest, along with our KyHFH board president Brenda Weaver, at the Kentucky Housing Corporation table. The food and the Keynote speaker were fantastic. Brain Goldstone, Journalist, Anthropologist and Author spoke on his Pulitzer Prize winning book There Is No Place For Us: Working and Homeless in America. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg also spoke on the housing crisis in Louisville and the plans our city has to combat this challenge so that every man, woman and child has a decent safe and affordable place to live. I saw many friends and it was great to connect and catch up. Thank you KHC for inviting KyHFH to have a seat at your table and for the incredible support you have provided for Habitat over the years! We couldn't do it without you!

It is with extreme sadness that we mourn the loss of a beloved friend and board member of Kentucky Habitat for Humanity Chris Hovan. On May 15th, 2026, Chris and her beloved Ed were hit head on by a drunk driver in Nelson Co. Ed passed at the scene while Chris was airlifted to the U of L Hospital Trauma Center in critical condition. This past weekend we thought she had turned a corner, having had multiple successful surgeries and breathing on her own. But, it was not to be. Chris held on as long as she could, but the injuries were just too much for her body to recover from. Chris was our board Treasurer and our friend. We had just attended a Louisville Orchestra coffee concert and Dawn at the Downs. We had just sent emails to each other and planned to meet on our finances. She did such great work for Habitat. It was and still is a shock for all of us who loved them both. Chris and Ed, we will miss you! We love you both and we wish you peace and much love together in eternity. Watch out for us up there, will you?!

On May 21, 2026, I was honored to be invited to the Kentucky State Capitol for a Memorial Day salute to remember and honor all of the Kentucky men and women who serve our Commonwealth and country. Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Whitney Allen was the keynote speaker while the National Anthem was sung by the Capital City Chorale. The posting of colors, and flag folding were presented by the Kentucky National Guard. A wreath was laid at the ceremony to honor all who have fallen on our behalf. It was a beautiful event and one I felt honored to attend. Due to the weather, what was to be held on the front lawn of the Old Capitol Building was moved inside to the beautiful Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History.
KyHFH wishes to extend our most heartfelt wishes for a wonderful Memorial Day to all of those, both past and present, who have served our country with dignity, honor, commitment and made in some instances the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms and liberties we all share today. Thank-you!

IMPORTANT LEADERSHIP UPDATE
FROM KY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
The board of directors of KY Habitat for Humanity would like to announce that after 22 years of dedicated service, Mary Shearer has decided to retire as our Executive Director, effective June 30, 2026.
We are confident that our team and dedicated supporters will ensure our programs continue to thrive now and in the future.
Please join the board in thanking Mary for her service and welcoming Heath Duncan as the new executive director of Kentucky Habitat for Humanity. Heath will begin his new duties on May 15, 2026.
Heath Duncan is a nonprofit executive with 20 years of leadership experience in affordable housing, community development, and organizational management. Since 2007, he has served as Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Pennyrile Region, where he leads a multi-county organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing through the development of safe, affordable homes. Under his leadership, the affiliate expanded from a single-county operation into a regional organization serving three counties, while also supporting construction efforts in additional counties through strategic partnerships with corporate donors and government agencies.
Heath works closely with board members, staff, volunteers, and community partners to ensure effective program delivery and long-term sustainability. He maintains strong relationships across the Kentucky Habitat for Humanity affiliate network and has collaborated extensively on statewide advocacy efforts and cohesive messaging initiatives. His leadership at the national level includes service with Habitat for Humanity International, where he is a member of the Affiliate Enhancement Committee and a co-facilitator of a Community of Practice focused on strengthening affiliate board governance.
Beyond Habitat for Humanity, Heath has held numerous statewide and regional leadership roles, including Secretary of the Kentucky Habitat for Humanity Board, Chair of the Pennyrile Housing Corporation Board, and past President of the Hopkins County Home Builders Association. He also co-chaired the Hopkins County Long-Term Disaster Recovery Group following the Quad State Tornado. Currently, he serves as Vice President and President-Elect of the Madisonville Noon Kiwanis. Heath is recognized for his collaborative, mission-driven leadership and his commitment to strengthening communities across Kentucky.
This change in executive leadership is accompanied by new leadership at the board level as well. Scott Turner will replace Heath as secretary, Zach Worsham has assumed the vice-president position, and Brenda Weaver. Has assumed the position of president. We are all looking forward to working with Heath in this new role and express our sincerest thanks to Mary for her years of dedication and commitment to KY Habitat.
